HYDRA/History Altered by Chronicoms
HYDRA is an authoritarian paramilitary-subversive terrorist organization bent on world domination in an alternate timeline created by the Chronicoms. In ancient times, it was a cult and secret society centered around the fanatical worship of Hive, the world's first Inhuman.
History[]
Ancient Times[]
Millennia ago, a human hunter was transformed into the first Inhuman, gaining immense strength and other powers. The Inhuman would later become known as Alveus, or Hive, due to his parasitic nature as a result of his Terrigenesis. Eventually, humans and Inhumans who feared Hive's growing power and influence would banish him to Maveth, a distant star system, where he would remain for thousands of years. However, a secret society of Hive's worshipers would be formed with the intent of bringing him back to Earth; the organization would come to be known as HYDRA.[1]
1931[]

Freddy Malick being recruited by Viola
In 1931, Wilfred Malick, the son of a late HYDRA member, was working as a bartend at a party for Franklin D. Roosevelt. During the party, Malick was approached by Viola, his contact within HYDRA, who gave him the key ingredient for the Super Soldier Serum. Suddenly they were attacked by Chronicom Hunters disguised as NYPD officers. Malick was saved by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents from the future, whose mission was to make sure he would succeed in delivering the ingredient.[2] With the Chronicom after them, S.H.I.E.L.D. accomplished their mission and Malick delivered the ingredient at the Hell's Harbor.[3]
The Rise of S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
With their Super Soldier Serum ingredient provided, Wilfred Malick had become a loyal member of HYDRA, as Malick's actions by delivering the serum, allowed Johann Schmidt's HYDRA cell to ware war against the entire world, and in return, HYDRA restored Malick's family fortune. However, as S.H.I.E.L.D. rose up in response to HYDRA's actions during World War II, Malick's HYDRA cells infiltrated the organization, with Malick swiftly becoming a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, able to manipulate the organization for HYDRA's benefit.[4]
1955[]

Wilfred Malick builds power within HYDRA
In 1955, Wilfred Malick received information that Daniel Sousa had been tasked with delivering an important device for S.H.I.E.L.D. to Howard Stark, he also learned of Sousa's suspicions of S.H.I.E.L.D. having become infiltrated by HYDRA, as Sousa had informed Malick of his belief, since he had mistakenly believed that Malick was his ally. In response, Malick ordered his subordinates to kill Sousa before he exposes HYDRA's infiltration, while also sending in Joe to capture Niles Lindmore, to learn about the device Sousa was delivering. Malick also got an anonymous tip that Sousa was on the train to Los Angeles, as Malick had then ordered Lana to ambush Sousa there.

Deke Shaw taken by Wilfred Malick's men
Eventually, Malick's subordinates returned with a man, who they had kidnapped from the Lindmore Residence. However, Malick had been unconvinced that the man was Niles Lindmore. The man revealed himself to be Deke Shaw, whom Malick remembered had helped him rose to power, although he was shocked to see he looked exactly as he had looked in 1931. Malick then released him, but threatened to not encounter HYDRA again. As he was leaving, Malick questioned what Shaw was doing there, to which Shaw claimed that he had been looking out for his future.

Wilfred Malick making his deal with Luke
Meanwhile, on the train to Los Angeles, the HYDRA agents failed to steal the device from Sousa because of his assistance from S.H.I.E.L.D. from the future. Later at Hotel Roosevelt, Joe ambushed Sousa and seemingly killed him. As Malick was thinking HYDRA's infiltration was kept in secret, he was approached by Luke, a Chronicom, who explained to him that his race had come from the future to stop S.H.I.E.L.D. from destroying everything Malick had build. Luke offered his help as long as Malick would listen and follow his words.[4]
Project Insight[]
The Chronicoms guided Wilfred Malick to develop Project Insight, based on the same project HYDRA had created in their timeline, in order to kill the enemies of Malick's HYDRA. In 1973, Malick attended a party at The Krazy Kanoe to celebrate the creation of the project with his S.H.I.E.L.D. subordinates. Eventually, Malick and the Chronicom Hunters caught Phil Coulson and the rest of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team sent from the future at the party. However, Daisy Johnson threatened to kill Malick's son, Nathaniel, so he was forced to let the agents escape. Nathaniel witnesses Johnson using her Inhuman powers against the Hunters.
Three years later, at Project Insight satellite launch day, Malick was once again approached by Luke to show him the Chronicoms had captured Director Alphonso Mackenzie's parents at the Lighthouse, so the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents would not destroy the base to prevent the launch. Later, Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Deke Shaw broke into Malick's home at River's End to arrest him. However, Malick was confident the Chronicoms had predicted their every move. However, Shaw shot him to death. The Insight rocket then launched, but Zephyr One shot him down, stopping HYDRA's plan.[5]
At a remote location, with the knowledge of Daniel Whitehall, Nathaniel experimented on Johnson in order to give to himself her Inhuman powers. After Johnson barely survived the operation, Nathaniel gained her quaking powers. However he could not control them, accidentally making the ceiling collapsing on hum, allowing Sousa to escape with Johnson.[6]
