Dark Man 3
Dark Man 3 (ダークマン3 Dākuman 3), also written as Dark Man III, is the third of the four Dark Man robots created by Dr. Wily to assassinate Mega Man in Mega Man 5. Dark Man 3 is a sniper type model, his right arm being a cannon able of rapid-firing energy projectiles at any angle. He lacks the electromagnetic barrier from Dark Man 2 and 4, but in exchange he can perform high jumps and his chest can fire ring shaped beams able to paralyze his enemies.
Appearance[]
Dark Man 3 is a humanoid robot. He has a green head, yellow eyes, a gray torso, a purple armor that has a large red gem in it, lavender rocket boosters with gray ends installed on the back Dark Man 3's armor, black left arm, white left hands, a cannon on his right arm, purple greaves and white feet.
Pumpkin Head Dark Man[]
Appearing as Pumpkin Head Dark Man in Mega Man X DiVE, the purple color on Dark Man is replaced with a texture of a pumpkin and also wears a jack-o'-lantern on top of his head.
Video game appearances[]
Mega Man 5[]
Dark Man 3 is the boss of Proto Stage 3.
Attack Pattern[]
Dark Man 3 is very slow on the ground, only inching forward in short walks. He has 2 attacks, but he uses them based on player proximity. If the player is far away, he will jump high into the air and stay in place at the apex of his jump to rapid-fire 5 shots from his sniper cannon. These 5 shots are loosely and individually aimed at the player's position, and Dark Man 3 falls back to the ground after he shoots the last shot. If the player is close to Dark Man 3, he will stop walking and fire 3 ring projectiles from his chest, in a spread that is loosely aimed at Mega Man's position, and these rings fly at a rather slow speed. The rings actually paralyze Mega Man in place for several seconds, if they touch him, so he can be hit more easily by Dark Man 3's sniper shots/body contact. Dark Man 3 does his next action after the rings disappear, but if the player dodges the rings and stays close to Dark Man 3, he will stay in place and keep shooting rings until they hit Mega Man, ensuring an easy victory.
Weaknesses[]
As with all the Dark Men, Dark Man 3 is weak to Beat, who automatically homes in on him to damage him and does 3 damage. If the player wishes to use a different weapon if they want to save Beat for Dark Man 4, or does not have Beat, the player has two options to use. Gyro Attack and Super Arrow do 2 damage, though Gyro Attack is the more recommended option, as it costs less ammo than Super Arrow. As with all bosses, Dark Man 3 takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot.
A lesser known method of fighting him is to use Charge Kick and to run into the paralyzing rings with it. If hit, Mega Man is frozen in place and remains invincible while frozen, still being able to hurt Dark Man 3. Both the shots and contact damage can't hurt Mega Man as he is in his Charge Kick state. After the appropriate amount of time, the player breaks out of the paralysis and if timed correctly, Dark Man 3 will take 2 hits and the player will slide away from him before taking contact damage. However, Charge Kick only inflicts 1 damage at a time, so this is a more experimental method of fighting him.
Mega Man X DiVE[]
Dark Man III first appeared as the boss of the event Black Assassin. He was later included in the Jakob Orbital Elevator mode, being fought alongside Byte on floor 115, Bit on floor 140, and Bospider on floor 170.
Dark Man III also had a Halloween themed version named Pumpkin Head Dark Man that appeared as the boss from the event Halloween Scare Challenge.

Two parts of Dark Man 3 are among the parts of robots Dr. Wily is creating in Mega Man #54, and all four Dark Man models are seen briefly by Dr. Light in Mega Man #55 when he has a vision of the near future.
Mega Man Megamix[]
The four Dark Man type robots are based on the same design that were in charge of defending Dr. Wily's fortress during his fifth attempt at world domination. Dark Man 3 is a sniper variation. His entire right arm is a large buster that is capable of repeatedly firing high-velocity projectiles. He is also equipped with a Spark Shot weapon located in his chest, which is capable of stopping his opponent's movements for a short period of time. To improve Dark Man 3's agility in combat, his feet were specially designed to allow him to jump much higher than would normally be possible.
In “Power Battle,” Dark Man 4 calls the other Dark Man robots to kidnap Roll, Auto, and Rush to present them as hostages to Dr. Wily, in exchange for greater rank. When they corner the three, Bass intervenes calling them cowards for ganging up on Roll, easily beating the four Dark Man robots.
The four Dark Man robots also appeared in the Mega Man Gigamix story "To a Shining Morrow", explaining to Shadow Man that they survived the attack from the alien robot by hiding inside Gamerizer, and that they helped Shade Man transport and repair the defeated Wily Numbers.
Rockman 5 (manga)[]
Like the game, Dark Man 3 is the third Dark Man robot fought by Rockman in Blues's fortress.
