Anansi is a folklore figure that hails from West Africa, having first been noted among the Akan. He is famed for his association with stories and trickery, as well as being depicted as a spider, similar to coyotes with various Native American tribes.
Stories depicting him have him use his wits to gain the better of the situation rather than might. While he is more famous for being the protagonist of stories, it is not unheard of for Anansi to be the antagonist.
"A folkloric hero of the Ashanti and other tribes in West Africa. He is depicted as a trickster who gets by on his wit and cunning. Portrayed as a spider or a man, depending on interpretation. Anansi appears in many stories, including one where he collected the people's wisdom in a gourd and attempts to hang it from a tree. But in a fit of dismay, he upends it and scatters wisdom across the world. Other stories tell of how he buys the stories of the sky god Onyankopon and makes them his own. These stories are collectively called Anansesem, or spider tales."
—Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance lore
Anansi is introduced in the Shinagawa region of Da'at, near the Konan 2nd Block leyline fount, where he is bickering with his father Onyankopon over them joining with Bethel to form the African Branch. Anansi, the more chaotic of the two, is for the alliance with the African gods and Bethel, but Onyankopon the orderly, traditionalist minded is staunchly against it. Onyankopon then decides to make the alliance into a game, with the Nahobino and Anansi being tasked to slay as many Basilisks as they can until the next Full Moon, with at minimum 2 kills for the Quest "Tough Love." Upon completing it, Anansi tries to trick Onyankopon into getting his way through clever usage of exact wording, but Onyankopon anticipated this kind of treachery, and orders a group of Nyami Nyami to take Anansi away.
Anansi and Onyankopon are part of a Law/Chaos subquest choice in the third area of Da'at, regardless of which Canon route the game is in (Chiyoda for the Canon of Creation, and Shinjuku for the Canon of Vengeance), both having to deal with Anansi's theft of the Golden Stool, with Anansi's version being "Liberate the Golden Stool," with Anansi having stolen the Golden Stool in the hopes of using the souls of the Ashanti to help make a Bethel Africa branch due to the various atrocities the African people have been visited with and the power of the souls of the Ashanti. Completing either Onyankopon's Quest or Anansi's Quest unlocks both African demons for special fusion.

Trivia[]
While Anansi was revealed in the same interview as fellow African demon Onyankopon, his Daily Demon video was accidentally leaked by SEGA Korea, when they had released a compilation for Daily Demons #37-39 ahead of time on their Twitter/X account (which has since been deleted), with this compilation in question having this demon first, followed by Mothman and Bishamonten.
