Class Q planet
The Class Q, from the old Vulcan Quaris class, was a type of planet that has rarely been encountered by the Federation. Conditions vary widely on class Q worlds, with very hot and cold regions and great variety in surface conditions. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Exiles; ST reference: Star Charts)
History[]

The Genesis Planet in 2285.
In 2268, the USS Enterprise conducted a survey of the class Q planet Delta Canaris IV to ascertain its suitability for colonization. (TOS novels: The Klingon Gambit, Mutiny on the Enterprise)
In 2285, the Genesis Planet was born from the Mutara Nebula and was formed as a Class Q planet. While the planet contained some microscopic life-forms, the planet ultimately proved unstable because of the protomatter that was used during its creation, as well as the manner in which the Genesis Device was used. As a result the planet exploded a few weeks after its creation. (TOS movie: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock; TNG novel: The Genesis Wave, Book 2; ST reference: Star Charts)
