Van Hansen was a 23rd century Human man. He was a Starfleet officer who served aboard the USS Enterprise in 2254 as assistant chief engineer under Commander Moves-With-Burning-Grace.

Biography[]

When Chakuun ghostships attacked the Enterprise at Theta Kalyb, Captain Christopher Pike said he needed all available power for the shields. Grace asked Van Hansen to reroute all nonessential power into the shield generators. He rushed to comply, moments before he was killed in an explosion by a direct hit through the ship's hull from a fusion caster energy weapon. (EV - The Fallen comic: "Part Two")

It's unclear if Van Hansen is his full name, or just his surname. Chief Engineer Moves-With-Burning-Grace calls him "Van" twice, then names him as "Second Engineer Van Hansen" when reporting his death to Captain Pike.
