Statement by the PMR Foreign Ministry
Pridnestrovie welcomes the EU’s intention to provide an emergency financial grant to offer short-term support to the republic amid the humanitarian and energy crisis. Due to the lack of precise information regarding the parameters of this support, as well as conflicting interpretations by certain officials of the Republic of Moldova that contradict the content of a previously received letter from Moldova’s political representative, the Pridnestrovian side has put forward a counter-initiative to hold an expert meeting as soon as possible.

The PMR President Addresses International Community
As ordered by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes the text of the Head of State’s address to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council. The Foreign Ministry notes that the President has signed and sent several addresses to international partners today, emphasizing the urgent need for the prompt supply of natural gas to Pridnestrovie and the importance of preventing a fuel and energy crisis and a humanitarian catastrophe in the country.

Breakaway republics fascinate me. It’s a story of how a section of a country feels so strongly that they aren’t part of that country that they pull away, but don’t manage to separate completely. Some of these countries eventually gain independence, others don’t ever really intend to get it, and still others remain in limbo, part and yet not part of the host country.
