Step Up film location: Tyler is sentenced to work at the ‘Maryland School for the Arts’: Booker T Washington Middle School, McCulloh Street, Baltimore

The Baltimore locations look decidedly down-at-heel in this dance romance, with the city’s glitzy waterfront developments tantalisingly out of reach in the distance.
The party house where the film opens – and also the site of its darkest moments later on – is 1426 Madison Avenue at Mosher Street, in the Madison Park area to the northwest of the city. It appears fairly rundown on screen, but it’s since had a smart makeover and looks quite desirable.
Behind the house runs the misleadingly named Tiffany Alley, down which badboy Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) and his pals Mac and Skinny (Damaine Radcliff and De’Shawn Washington) make a hasty exit after a gun gets pulled.
The alley ends opposite the rear entrance to the ‘Maryland School of the Arts’ on West Lafayette Avenue.
Of course, there’s no such school. The school exterior is Booker T Washington Middle School, and its grand main entrance is around the corner at 1301 McCulloh Street.
Step Up film location: Tyler and Nora rehearse: City Pier Building, Thames Street, Fells Point, Baltimore
Caught vandalising the auditorium, Tyler is sentenced to 200 hours community service in the very school, which specialises in music and dance. Tyler, naturally, has a few moves of his own and he’s soon hooking up with dance student Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan-Tatum).
The school’s vast rehearsal room, where Nora teaches Tyler classical dance as he gives her a bit of urban edge, is the City Pier Building, Thames Street at South Broadway, Fells Point.
Step Up film location: ...also the home for Homicide: City Pier Building, Thames Street, Fells Point, Baltimore
You don’t see this building’s exterior, since you might recognise it as the police HQ from the Barry Levinson-produced TV drama Homicide: Life on the Streets. In fact, it bears a plaque commemorating the fact. The building is currently empty.
Step Up film location: Nora gets coy about her feelings for Tyler: Cup Love, O'Donnell Street, Baltimore
The coffee shop, where Nora gets all defensive about her feelings for Tyler, is yummy cupcake and frozen yogurt store Cup Love, 2928 O’Donnell Street at O’Donnell Square in the lively Canton district.
You probably won’t get the chance to practice your demi-pliés like Nora and Tyler with such great views over the Patapsco River to the Francis Scott Keys Bridge. That particular spot is at the Riverside Power Plant on Broening Highway in Dundalk, to the south.
