New Articles

Fozzie construction

Unlike a blog or news site, Muppet Wiki does not have a front page feed of new articles published on any kind of release schedule. This is due to the nature of a wiki's mission to document all aspects related to a particular topic rather than a timely report of current events. More often than not, new articles created on the wiki are focused on historical aspects and would not meet the criteria of many up-to-the-minute style of online publications.

However, a wiki does come equipped with some tools to help readers keep up on the new content that has been added to the wiki. This page will offer a few ways to find that material.

Special:NewPages[]

Special:NewPages is a tool built into the MediaWiki software specifically designed to create a feed of the most recently created articles added to the wiki in the main namespace. This means any page that contributes to the wiki's full article count excluding files, project pages, special pages, forum/talk pages, etc. We've made some minor modifications to make this list easier to read, sorted by date and including the originator of the article.

User Contributions[]

While Special:NewPages offers a clean feed of new pages to browse through, it has its limits. Primarily that it caps the list based on the length of time since an article was created and a fluctuating quota. If you want to look further back than what Special:NewPages is providing, the best way to do this is to look at a user's contributions and filter to page creations.

To best use this option, it's helpful to be familiar with the wiki's most active editors. Special:ListUsers provides a list of users on the wiki in a table that can be sorted by their number of edits and when they most recently contributed. Click on the "contribs" link next to their name, expand the "search for contributions" field, select "Articles" under the Namespace dropdown, then check the box labelled "Only show edits that are page creations." The resulting list can be navigated as far back as that user's earliest contributions on the wiki. The following is a small collection of quick links for some active admins. Rather than navigating with the instructions above, you can also swap out the username in the links below with any other username to generate their results.

While this method hides the new creation of non-article pages, it still includes redirects which is not helpful for this purpose and should be ignored.

Move Log[]

Muppet Wiki uses a special Sandbox: namespace to work on ideas that aren't ready to circulate amongst those articles more "ready" for a wider audience. When a sandbox page has had its kinks worked out, it gets moved to the main article namespace, adding to the overall page count on the wiki. Because these don't register with the previous methods described above, to fully not miss out new wiki articles, take a look at the Move Log. Because these results can't be filtered by a prefix, do a browser search (CTRL-F) for Sandbox: (include the colon for best results). This method is particularly helpful for when we generate our collection of best new articles created at the end of the year, ensuring we don't miss anything.

New Images[]

The methods above focus specifically on articles. MediaWiki offers two tools to see the latest images that have been added to a wiki.

Special:NewFiles provides a gallery-style feed of new images. Clicking on one will show you which articles on the wiki it's being used. This view can also be sorted by type of media, although Muppet Wiki typically focuses on images with only a small amount of videos and other formats.

Special:ListFiles offers a list view with the added benefit of being able to filter by user.

The landscape of social media has changed drastically in the decades since Muppet Wiki was founded in 2005 (we got started before Facebook left school campuses and we predate Twitter). We have had a presence on most major platforms over the years, dropping in and out as the trends shift. While social media has been a helpful tool to share the projects that contributors of the wiki have been working on together, we've never seen it as a space to build anything of substance. That happens on the wiki. With that said, from time to time, you may find us sharing some of our latest additions and exciting finds on one of our feeds, a list of which can be found here.

Recent Changes[]

We've saved this section for last as it's most helpful as a tool for editors rather than readers. Special:RecentChanges is perhaps the most important page on any wiki for an active editor. It includes a feed of every new page created, every file uploaded, every change to user rights and article permissions, and every edit that's made to any page on the wiki, among other changes. It's not the most pleasant aesthetic, but it's not as complicated as it looks at first either. In any case, this is the spot to check if you want to see absolutely everything happening on the wiki.

The top of this page also includes some quick links under "other review tools" that will filter your view for logs, items on your watchlist, and other options. Quick links are also available to see only the most recent activity in the forums and talk pages. Below this, many more "active filters" are available to help you fine-tune the results. You can also generate a feed based on a category of interest using Special:RecentChangesLinked, simply by entering the desired category in the input field (categories can be found linked at the bottom of any article on the wiki).
