"Together at Christmas" was written for the special The Christmas Toy. The song is initially sung by a mournful Rugby Tiger to a comatose Mew (registered on ASCAP as "I Want to Tell You I Love You").[1] The song has restorative powers, bringing Mew back from being "frozen forever." The rest of the toys sing another chorus in the playroom, reviving the other frozen toys. In the epilogue on Christmas Day, the cast sings a reprise of the chorus (joined by Kermit the Frog).
The song was later performed by the casts of The Muppet Show and Sesame Street at the end of the Christmas medley in A Muppet Family Christmas.
