For example, it has become one of the requirements for electronic devices to require the electronic devices to have waterproof function at the plug connection with the earphone.

Generally, the waterproof audio connector includes an insulating body and a plurality of audio terminals, and the audio terminals are assembled by inserting the rear end of the insulating body, but the assembly can be performed smoothly by requiring more gaps or requiring a predetermined tolerance for the components during the insertion process. For example, CN106803621A discloses a drawer with terminals inserted in a drawer base, and then the drawer base is inserted into an insulating body. Therefore, in addition to the gap required for inserting the terminal, the matching degree between the drawer seat and the insulating body is also required. In other words, the individual forming and assembling adaptation of different semi-finished products should be considered at the same time, and therefore the assembling size of the finished product is larger and cannot be reduced accordingly.

Another method, as disclosed in CN107871945A, is to combine the terminal and the insulator by injection molding, which means that a corresponding dedicated mold needs to be designed, and in order to meet the waterproof effect, a complicated structure is required, which is not favorable for the design and manufacture of the mold, and once a defect occurs or a dimensional change is required, a new mold can be made, which cannot effectively reduce the manufacturing cost.

Detailed Description

Fig. 1 is a schematic diagram of an audio connector according to an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the audio connector of fig. 1. Orthogonal coordinates X-Y-Z are also provided herein to facilitate component description. Referring to fig. 1 and fig. 2, in the present embodiment, the

audio connector

100, for example, an audio socket, includes a

body

110, an audio terminal set 120, and a

circuit board

150, as shown in fig. 2, the

body

110 includes a front cover 116, a housing 112, and a base 114, which are assembled with the

circuit board

150 in sequence along a Z-axis to form a

cavity

111, the audio terminal set 120 is disposed on the

body

110, and a terminal of the audio terminal set is inserted into the base 114 and penetrates out of the base 114 to be electrically connected to the

circuit board

150. The external connector (such as an audio plug, not shown) is adapted to be inserted into the cavity to electrically connect with the audio terminal set 120, so as to perform audio transmission.

Fig. 3 is an exploded view of the audio connector of fig. 1. Referring to fig. 2 and fig. 3, the Z axis is used as the insertion axis of the

audio connector

100 and the external connector, so in detail, the audio terminal set 120 includes

terminals

121, 122, 123, 124 and 125, which are independently disposed in the

body

110. Here, the terminal 121 is, for example, a right audio terminal, the

terminals

122 and 123 are, for example, left audio terminals, the terminal 124 is, for example, a microphone audio terminal, and the terminal 125 is, for example, a ground terminal. However, the present embodiment does not limit the types or types of the

terminals

121 to 125, and the design can be changed according to the requirement. Furthermore, the terminals 121-125 are substantially arranged on the X-Z plane, and there is an adjacent relationship as shown in fig. 2 for the terminal 124, the terminal 121, the terminal 122, the terminal 123 and the terminal 125 in sequence along the X axis, wherein the terminal 124, the terminal 121 and the terminal 122 are located on one side of the

cavity

111, and the terminal 123 and the terminal 125 are located on the other side of the

cavity

111. The profile of each of the terminals 121-125 of the present embodiment has a plate portion, wherein the plate portions of the terminals 121-125 are substantially perpendicular to the X-Z plane, and the detailed structure of each of the terminals 121-125 will be described in detail later.

In addition, the

audio connector

100 of the present embodiment further includes a sealing

member

130 disposed on the terminal 121 and configured to abut between the

adjacent terminal

121 and the terminal 122 and abut between the terminal 121 and the housing 112. More importantly, as shown in the enlarged view of fig. 2, the sealing

member

130 is located at the nearest position of the

terminals

121 and 122, that is, there is the shortest distance d1 where the

terminals

121 and 122 are closest to each other, and the sealing

member

130 is filled in the space with the shortest distance d 1. Here, the sealing

member

130 abuts against the flat and non-bent portions of the terminal 121 and the terminal 122, and the sealing

member

130 and the terminal 121 are combined by injection molding, wherein the sealing

member

130 includes a

portion

131 and a

portion

132 respectively disposed on two opposite surfaces of the terminal 121, wherein the

portion

131 abuts against the terminal 122, and the

portion

132 abuts against the housing 112. In the present embodiment, the

portions

131 and 132 are connected to each other, that is, the terminal 121 can be regarded as being combined with the sealing

member

130 by insert molding (insert molding), so that a part of the terminal 121 is covered by the sealing

member

130. Here, the sealing

member

130 and the

body

110 are made of the same electrically insulating material. However, the arrangement relationship of the sealing

element

130 on the terminal 121 is not limited in this embodiment, and in another embodiment, the sealing element may be only arranged on one surface of the terminal.

Referring again to fig. 3, the description is divided according to the structural characteristics of each terminal. In the audio terminal set 120, the

terminals

122 and 123 respectively have

plate bodies

122a and 123a, bent portions 122b and 123b, connection ends 122d and 123d, and

elastic ends

122c and 123c, wherein the connection ends 122d and 123d are located on the

plate bodies

122a and 123a, and are used for being inserted into the base 114 and electrically connected to the

circuit board

150. The bent portions 122b, 123b extend from the

plate bodies

122a, 123a and are bent back (i.e., first extend from the

plate bodies

122a, 123a toward the negative Z-axis direction and then extend toward the positive Z-axis direction), and portions of the bent portions 122b, 123b are parallel to the

plate bodies

122a, 123a, and the elastic ends 122c, 123c are located at the bent portions 122b, 123b and substantially face the connection ends 122d, 123d due to the bending back thereof. Furthermore, the

terminals

124 and 125 respectively have plate bodies 124a and 125a, bent portions 124b and 125b, elastic ends 124c and 125c, and connection ends 124d and 125d, wherein the connection ends 124d and 125d are located on the plate bodies 124a and 125a and are used for being inserted into the base 114 and electrically connected to the

circuit board

150. The bending portions 124b and 125b extend away from the plate bodies 124a and 125a (substantially toward the negative Z-axis direction), and the elastic ends 124c and 125c are located at the bending portions 124b and 125b and away from the connecting ends 124d and 125 d. In the present embodiment, since the

terminals

122 and 123 have the bent portions 122b and 123b bent back, it is not easy to arrange the sealing member thereon by injection molding, and even if a desired mold can be designed and manufactured, the mold structure is complicated due to the bent back shape, and the

terminals

124 and 125 are co-injection molded with the housing 112.

In addition, the structure of the terminal 121 is the same as that of the

terminals

124 and 125, that is, the plate body 121e of the terminal 121 is covered by the sealing

member

130, and thus the

wing portions

121a and 121b exposed out of the sealing

member

130 are formed, and the connecting

end

121d is also provided to be inserted into the base 114 and electrically connected to the

circuit board

150, while the

elastic end

121c of the terminal 121 is located at the bending portion 121f, and the bending portion 121f, such as the bending portions 124b and 125b of the

terminals

124 and 125, is not described again. Here, when the external connector is inserted into the

cavity

111, it will abut against the elastic ends 121c, 122c, 123c, 124c, 125c to electrically connect the

audio connector

100

Furthermore, as can be seen from fig. 3, after the terminal 121 is completely combined with the sealing

member

130, the

terminals

121, 122 and 123 of the present embodiment are inserted into the base 114; then, the base 114 and the terminals 121-123 thereon are inserted into the housing 112 from the rear end, and correspondingly, the

terminals

124, 125 are inserted into the housing 112 from the front end, and then the front cover 116 is assembled to the

housing

110, and the connecting ends 121d, 122d, 123d, 124d, 125d of the terminals 121-125 pass through the base 114 until the terminals are welded to the pad insertion holes of the

circuit board

150, thereby completing the assembly process of the

audio connector

100, wherein the exposed

wing portions

121a, 121b after the

plate bodies

122a, 123a, 124a, 125a of the terminals 122-125 and the

terminals

121 are combined can be used as the inner structure embedded in the housing 112, thereby achieving the embedded state shown in fig. 2. In other words, the terminals 121-125 can be considered to be arranged on the X-Z plane, and the positions where the

plate bodies

122a, 123a, 124a, 125a and the

wing parts

121a, 121b are embedded in the housing 112 can be considered as the upper side and the lower side of the X-Z plane, it should be noted that the terminals 122-125 without the sealing

member

130 are arranged, and the

plate bodies

122a, 123a, 124a, 125a can also be considered as the wing parts. On the other hand, the inner structure of the housing 112 and the sealing

member

130 are used to keep the terminals 121-125 independent and insulated from each other, and the electrical short circuit caused by the external object, such as water, flowing between the terminals 121-125 can be avoided. In short, the above-mentioned need to isolate the terminals 121-125 by the internal structure of the housing 112 or the sealing

member

130 is at the nearest position of the terminals 121-125, i.e. to prevent water from flowing into the nearest position and being unable to be removed, and conversely, the other parts of the terminals 121-125 at the non-nearest position are easy to be removed due to the larger gap even after water flows in.

For example, there are an internal structure of the

body

110 and a

portion

132 of the sealing

member

130 between the

terminals

124 and 121, a

portion

132 of the sealing

member

130 between the

terminals

121 and 122, and an internal structure of the

body

110 between the

terminals

123 and 125, so as to improve the compactness of the structure and achieve the isolation effect. In other words, in the

terminals

121 to 125 of the

audio connector

100, one part is electrically insulated from the rest by the sealing

member

130, and the other part is electrically insulated from the rest by the internal structure of the

body

110.

Fig. 4A is a schematic diagram of a portion of the components of an audio connector of another embodiment. FIG. 4B illustrates the component parts of FIG. 4A from another perspective. Referring to fig. 4A and fig. 4B, different from the foregoing embodiments, in the audio connector of the present embodiment, the

terminals

121, 124, and 125 are respectively configured with the sealing

elements

130, 231, and 232, wherein the terminal 121 and the sealing

element

130 are not repeated as in the foregoing embodiments. For the

terminals

124 and 125, the sealing

members

231 and 232 are disposed on the flat plate structure without bending portion, and the wing portions w1, w2, w3 and w4 are exposed, so that the

terminals

121 to 125 of the present embodiment can be embedded in the body through the

wing portions

121a, 121b and w1 to w 4. It should be noted that, by increasing the number of the

terminals

121, 124, 125 configured with the sealing

members

130, 231, 232, the complexity of the internal structure of the body can be further reduced, which is equivalent to simplifying the mold required for molding the body, and once the complexity of the structure is reduced, the overall volume of the audio connector can be further reduced, and the degree of fitting and the combination thereof can be improved, so that the audio connector is not limited by the mold and the required independent, insulating and waterproof effects can be maintained.

In summary, in the above embodiments of the present invention, when the terminals are disposed on the body of the audio connector, the sealing member is provided as an abutting structure between the two adjacent terminals, and the sealing member is located at the nearest position of the two adjacent terminals and is located in a flat and non-bending region on the terminals, so that a compact structure between the nearest positions of the two terminals due to the presence of the sealing member can be effectively ensured, and any gap can be prevented from being formed. Therefore, the sealing element can be assembled into the body along with the terminal as an assembly structure, the complexity of the structure of the body can be effectively simplified while the close fit degree of the component is improved, the complexity of a die required for forming the body is reduced, the manufacturing process and the manufacturing cost can be effectively simplified, and the overall volume of the audio connector can be further reduced during design due to the fact that the compact structure is kept. Therefore, the audio connector is not limited by a mold any more, and simultaneously has the required independent, electrical insulation and waterproof effects.
