Description

The invention relates to a centrifugal fan which comprises a housing with an inlet and an outlet approximately perpendicular thereto, and an impeller which is arranged rotatably in the housing and is driven via a shaft mounted in the housing and has curved blades and a suction opening opposite the inlet of the housing.

Such fans are known and so far always designed so that the inside of the housing is spiral-shaped, the end of the spiral being at the greater distance from the central axis of the impeller near the outlet.

These centrifugal fans, if the housing has a simple thin wall, which of course reduces the cost of producing it from sheet metal, are also designed spirally on the outside.

The disadvantage of these known centrifugal fans is that they cannot be easily installed in any position, but require additional aids.

For example, a known radial fan, the housing of which is made of sheet metal in a spiral, is provided on its two end walls with rectangular walls or plates which protrude above this spiral housing and can then be fastened in more than one position with the aid of these plates. The attachment of the aforementioned plates on the end faces of the known radial fan, however, requires an increased amount of material and work, which is then reflected in an increased price.

The invention has for its object to produce a centrifugal fan of the type described in a simple, inexpensive manner from sheet metal and with an aerodynamically acceptable inner shape has an outer shape that allows it to be installed in different positions.

This object is achieved in that the housing has an octagonal outer and inner cross section, the inlet being approximately in the middle of one, preferably approximately flat end wall and the bearing of the impeller shaft approximately in the middle of the other, opposite end wall. The outlet then lies in one of the sides of the octagonal housing and the impeller has a smaller outer diameter than the diametrical distance between two opposing octagon surfaces of the housing. In the space between the impeller and the housing there is, according to the invention, a baffle extending from the end wall to the end wall next to the outlet and in the direction of rotation of the impeller after it. This baffle leads approximately radially inward from the rear edge of the outlet in the direction of rotation of the impeller to the vicinity of the Impeller circumference, and then approximately spiral outwards to the housing wall.

While the octagonal outer shape of the housing offers considerable advantages with regard to a mounting option in different positions, the octagonal inner shape due to the single-walled manufacture of the housing from sheet metal is inevitably also satisfactory in terms of flow technology, as tests have confirmed. The already relatively large internal angles between two successive octagon surfaces (135 °) in the case of the octagon are practically negligible in terms of flow technology because they lie at a certain distance from the circumference of the impeller. How large this distance is best chosen can be determined by a few simple tests. The speed of the impeller, as well as the geometric conditions of the impeller blades and the desired characteristic of the radial fan, are more or less decisive.

In any case, according to the invention it is provided that in the space between the impeller and the housing, in the direction of rotation of the impeller behind the outlet, a baffle extending from the end wall to the end wall is arranged which radially exits the air flows approximately radially from the blades of the impeller, which initially occur between the impeller and housing arrange approximately in a spiral and then approximately in a circle, intercept and direct into the outlet. According to the invention, this guide plate leads from its point closest to the impeller back outwards in a gentle spiral shape to the housing wall.

While it is readily possible to arrange the center axis of the outlet tangentially to the center axis of the impeller, as is generally the case with the known radial fans with an approximately spiral housing described at the outset, a symmetrical configuration of the outlet can preferably also be obtained with the radial fan according to the invention by arranging the central axis of the outlet so that it intersects with the axis of the impeller.

Such a radial fan with a symmetrical outlet offers considerable advantages with regard to its installation and can therefore be used in many different ways. In particular, there is no need for the right-hand and left-hand versions that are otherwise customary for spiral-shaped housings.

While it is sufficient if the impeller is in the middle of the octagonal housing, a further improvement in the flow and thus the efficiency of the radial fan can be achieved by a slight offset of the impeller in relation to the central axis of the housing. This offset is expediently between one fifth and one sixth of the diameter of the outlet opening, the offset taking place in the direction that the central axis of the impeller lies on the side of the center line of the housing facing away from the outlet opening.

Dabei zeigen:

  • Fig. 1 eine Ansicht auf den geöffneten Radialventilator;
  • Fig. 2 eine Seitenansicht, teilweise längs der Linie II - II in Fig. 1 geschnitten;
The invention is explained below in exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing. Show:
  • Figure 1 is a view of the open radial fan.
  • Fig. 2 is a side view, partially cut along the line II - II in Fig. 1;
  • Fig. 3 is a side view of another embodiment and
  • Fig. 4 is an enlarged side view similar to FIG. 1 of an embodiment with an impeller offset from the center of the housing.

The radial fan shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 has a housing which is composed of two half-shells 1a and 1b. This housing is octagonal and has an outlet 11 extending over both half-shells.

In the middle of a half-shell 1b of the housing there is a circular opening as an inlet, into which a ring 2 is inserted. This ring is funnel-shaped and tapers at its axial end located in the housing. This end protrudes into a corresponding circular opening of the impeller 12 to be described without touching it.

In the middle of the other half-shell la of the housing there is a bearing for the shaft 13 of the already mentioned impeller 12, which serves with blades to deflect the air flowing in through the inlet 2 in the axial direction radially outwards.

The shaft 13 of the impeller 12 is connected to the shaft of an electric motor 14 placed on the outside of the half-shell la of the housing. This motor drives the impeller, possibly via a built-in gear.

As can be seen from Fig. 1, a guide plate 10 is inserted into the housing, which, starting from one edge of the outlet 11, approximately radially, but somewhat kinked in the middle, leads towards the circumference of the impeller and from there into leads to the octagonal casing shell. The impeller 12 is driven in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 1 and takes the air flowing in axially through the inlet 2, which then emerges at its circumference in an approximately radial direction, in the circumferential direction. The air then comes close to the outlet 11 and is prevented from continuing its circular movement by the baffle 10, so that it finally emerges from the outlet 11 in an approximately radial direction.

Due to the octagonal shape of the housing, the centrifugal fan can be attached in any position. An attachment in one of the various possible positions is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. Here, parallel to an octagonal surface of the housing and close to this, approximately U-shaped rails 3 are screwed to the housing or fastened to the housing in any other way on both sides of the housing. Below these rails are transverse U-shaped rails 5, which in turn are screwed to the rails 3 by means of screws 8.

The rails 5 are connected by means of screws 9 to vibrating rubber feet 6, which can be placed on a solid base and fastened in any way with it.

In the modified embodiment shown in Fig. 3 is again a housing consisting of two half-shells 101a and 101b with an annular one leave 102 and a similar outlet 111 provided. In this embodiment, the motor 114 is not flanged directly to the housing, but is connected to the shaft of the impeller (not shown) via a corresponding bearing 115 and a drive belt 116.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4 there is again an impeller 212 within an octagonal housing 201 with outlet 211, which, however, in contrast to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2, is somewhat offset relative to the center line 218 of the housing. The offset of the central axis 217 of the impeller 212 takes place within the plane passing through the center line 218 of the housing and the center of the outlet 211, in the direction away from that outlet 211. The offset 219 is preferably between a fifth and a sixth of the diameter 220 of the outlet 211. Experiments have shown that a particularly favorable flow then results. In this embodiment, too, a correspondingly shaped guide plate 210 is inserted into the housing.

As can be seen from the ideal spiral shown in dash-dotted lines in FIG. 4, the walls of the octagonal housing in conjunction with the guide plate 210 largely approximate this spiral shape.
