Abstract

Solns of acetylsalicyclic acid (I) which do not hydrolyse on standing are prepd by treating (I) in ethanol with an org. base soluble in both water and ethanol, then adding a buffer at pH 5-6 and a thickening agent, specif. polyvinyl pyrrolidone, (II), which prevents contact between the two liq. phases. In an example an antipyretic syrup was prepd contg, per 100g 1500 mg (I), 700 mg glutamine, 500 mg diethanolamine citrate and 1400 mg (II).
