Abstract

The device described enables a compass to be inserted into an antimagnetic enclosure. It comprises a magnetic pointer which indicates north and a second, independent pointer which gives a known direction. The enclosure may be a watch case made from a special antimagnetic, anodised alloy. The second pointer of the compass is connected to a central pivot (10) which, in turn, is connected to an external button on the watch case (6). This pointer can be directed from outside the watch to give a selected angular direction chosen according to the indication given by the magnetic pointer. The normal hands of the watch (1, 1a and 1b) are replaced by transparent discs on which the hours and minutes are painted (discs 1 and 2 reselectively) while an arrow or point moving over all the seconds is painted on disc (3).
