Abstract

1,171,691. Sustained release compositions. FOREST LABORATORIES, Inc. 24 Feb., 1967, No. 9004/67, Heading A5B. A pharmaceutical form for sustained buccal or sublingual administration consists of a shaped compressed product comprising a carrier of 100-80% methyl cellulose and 0-20% ethyl cellulose together with a therapeutically active ingredient, compressed at a pressure of 5-8 Ibs./sq. inch. The rate and duration of release of the active agent, which is either locally absorbed or swallowed in the saliva, is controlled by the size and shape of the product, and by the relative proportions of the two cellulose derivatives.
