Abstract

234,713. Chatfield, A. S. Nov. 18, 1924. Balls.-Relates to golf and like playing balls having a spherical, elastic core integral with a plurality of radial lugs of substantial length and uniform diameter, and comprises a casing formed of materials having different qualities, such as hardness or elasticity, the whole being surrounded by an outer cover. As shown, a core 10 of rubber composition is formed integral with a plurality of radial lugs 12, and encloses a steel ball or other weight 11. The core is surrounded by a casing H of two layers, the inner 14 being of hard material such as hard rubber, celluloid or metal, and the outer 15 of soft rubber. The usual outer cover S of gutta-percha or balata is provided. The spaces 13 between the lugs 12 may be filled with air or other fluid under compression, or with rubber windings.
