A freestanding cylindrical or box shaped tackle bag (C) comprises a sloped base (F) to enable the bag to stand at an inclined angle of 60 degrees ( Ò10 degrees) relative to the surface upon which it stands. The bag may be manufactured from PVC covered foam and have target zones (A,B) on its outer surface representing the upper and lower torso of a human. The inclined bag recreates the in-game contact that is experienced by players during contact sports, e.g. rugby, and promotes the correct tackling technique to be used.

TACKLE TECHNIQUE BAG

The invention relates to a tackle bag used in training in contact sports such as rugby union or rugby league. These tackle bags are used to imitate in training sessions the physical contact experienced during a game when one player tackles another player.

Such tackle bags are widely used in training sessions by players, but the conventional and historical tackle bags do not recreate the in-game contact experience effectively. The conventional and historical tackle bags are cylindrical in nature and are used in an upright position during tackling drills. This does not recreate the effect of a player running in at speed, leaning in to the tackler as in a full contact game. The conventional and historical tackle bags therefore do not promote the correct tackling technique during training and therefore this incorrect tackling technique is often then used during full contact games where injury can occur because of the incorrect tackling technique.

The purpose of this invention is to promote the correct mechanics and tackling technique to be used during training sessions and therefore to be used during a full contact games by the players.

By using the correct tackling technique it follows that less injuries will occur to players.

This invention consists of a cylindrical or box object with the top and bottom of the cylinder or box sloped at the specified angle which when the object is positioned so that the bottom of the object is parallel to the floor provides the correct tackling angle for the object to more effectively recreate the in-game contact experienced by the players.

The object must be made from soft material such as foam which is then encased with a pvc type covering to protect it from damage and the elements.

Target zones in a specified colour should be visible on the pvc covering to indicate the correct tackling zones and further promote the correct tackling technique to be used.

The object should be proportioned in length and girth to that of an average human to further promote the correct tackling technique to be used.

As shown in FIG's I and 3 ref D relates to the angle of the object when the top, ref E and bottom, ref F are placed parallel to the ground as shown in FIG 1. The angle ref D should be set at 60 100 inclined from the horizontal.

As shown in FIG's 1, 2 and 3 ref C relates to the main body of the object which is proportioned in length and girth to that of an average human.
