Abstract

July 25, 1927, [Convention date]. - Producer.-The fuel bed of a gas producer is contained in a metallic cooling-jacket or series of tubes which are separated from the fuel by a metallic facing which limits the heat transfer. Water tubes 7 are arranged between headers 8, 9, are surrounded by heat-insulating material 10 and are enclosed by metallic blocks 11 in the zone of highest temperature and by refractory blocks 13 at the upper and cooler part of the, producer. These blocks are replaceable and shaped so as to fit loosely around the tubes, and present a smooth inner surface to the fuel, reducing the flow of heat from the fire to the metal wall of the cooling-means. In the form shown in Fig. 8, an annular cooling-jacket 18 is used for the passage of air and steam from inlets 21, 22 before these are delivered by outlets 24 to below the grate. The jacket 18 is faced internally with bevelled blocks 25 which are held in position by lugs 19, Fig. 10.
