[Class 132 (ii).] In a projecting-appliance for use in practising lawn tennis, the initial depression of a spring- loaded pedal 22 selects one from a plurality of balls and a further depression of the pedal causes the projection of the selected ball 44 by spring-loading and releasing a projector arm 17. During the depression of the pedal, a roller 29 co-operates with a hooked projection on the projector arm to rotate the arm counterclockwise against the action of a spring.32, while a spring-urged lever 27, connected through a pitman to a rockable member 18, is released to deliver a ball from a magazine 5 to a forked support 13. Upon the completion of the depression of the pedal, which is ensured by a full-stroke device 41, 43, the projector arm escapes from the roller 29 and returns to project the positioned ball. The effective length of the projector arm is variable by a cam 14 that is adjustable to raise or lower the ball positioning fork 13. The tension of the projector spring 32 may be adjusted by movement of a lever 33 to which the lower end of the spring is anchored.
