Abstract

389,131. Golf-practising appliances. WIGHTMAN, M. B., 937, View Street, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Sept. 10, 1931, No. 25395. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1930. [Class 132 (ii).] Comprises a target 7 made of pliable material and spaced therefrom at a convenient distance a tee switch 20 upon which a ball may be placed, which when the ball is struck trips to make an electric circuit and start a timing device which is stopped when the circuit is broken by the ball striking the target. The lower edge 12 of the target is anchored by springs 14 which prevents wind action opening the target switch. When the target bulges on being struck, the springs 14 give and the switch 15 opens. When the ball leaves the tee the spring 25 forces contacts 23, 24 together to make a circuit and energize a solenoid which releases a timing device in the form of a weight attached to a drum which is arrested when the target is struck. A pointer on the drum spindle moves over a scale. In front of the target is a screen 18 with an aperture 17 smaller than the target through which aperture the ball has to pass.
