813,647. Bowden mechanism. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Oct. 18,1957 [July 20, 1956],No. 22534/56. Class 80 (3). A housing for a flexible cable comprises a main wire helix with its turns separated by an auxiliary helix 11 of the same bore but of a smaller gauge wire. The two helices are covered by a braided wire jacket 12 and a thin sleeve 13 of rubber or polyvinyl chloride. One or more longitudinal strainer wires 17, 18 interlacing the braiding may be provided to increase the tensile strength. An end fitting 15 may be provided with a coarse thread 16 for engaging between the helices, a sleeve 14 then being fitted and swaged down over the braiding. The sleeve 13 may then be stretched over the sleeve 14. Alternatively the end fitting may have an internal thread to engage the helices externally and the braiding and strainer wires are clamped by an outer swaged sleeve.
