Abstract

845,449. Spray-producers. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. May 8, 1958 [May 10, 1957], No. 15016/57. Class 69 (3). A sprayer to be held and operated by one hand includes a transparent cylindrical liquid container 13 surrounded by a transparent shell 10 to the upper ends of which a valve housing 12 is detachably secured and to their lower ends is attached a cap 11 provided with a gas inlet 15. A nozzle comprising coaxial liquid and gas tubes 33, 31 respectively leading to a discharge orifice 32, extends from the valve housing, and the arrangement is such that when a valve button 54 is depressed gas, e.g. oxygen, flows from the inlet and between the cylinders 10, 13 and through the valve to the liquid container and also to the gas tube 31, whereby liquid is forced through the tube 33 and a spray of gas-entrained liquid is emitted from the nozzle orifice. When the gas valve is closed the gas within the container is released to atmospheric pressure through the gas tube 31. One end of the tube 31 is received in an end of a sleeve 34 and is secured by a nut 35, and the liquid tube 33 extends into the container. In order to prevent spilling when the sprayer is tilted or inverted a tube 29 depends into the container which has an upper graduation marking 30 indicating the highest level to which the container should be filled in order that liquid will not enter the tube 29 when the sprayer is inverted. The valve housing includes a valve chamber 39 with a gas inlet 40 and outlet 41, and when the button 54 is depressed a valve member 46 is moved away from its seat and gas flows from an annular space 44 and through a hollow plug 42 to the outlet.
