Abstract

903,935. Welding by fusion. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU K. LIEBKNECHT MAGDEBURG VEB. April 26, 1960, No. 14576/60. Class 83 (4). A butt-welded joint for metal tubes, sheets, &c. each having a corrosion resistant liner or layer thereon, comprises a recess between the tube, sheet, &c. and the liner or layer in each adjacent welded surface, an intermediate member of copper or other good conductivity metal inserted in the recesses and welding seams containing different welding materials on opposite sides of the intermediate member. Two tubes 1, 1a of steel containing 0.15% C, 0.6% Mn, 0.3% Si and 0.03-0.06% P and S with shrunkon liners 2, 2a of austenitic material are provided at their ends with cylindrical recesses 3 between the liner and tube in which recesses is arranged an intermediate cylindrical copper plate 4. The recesses are provided in the tubes and liners before the latter are shrunk on. The tubes are arc welded together by a seam 5 and then the liners by a seam 6. The liners may project beyond the tube end surfaces so that the root of seam 6 is narrower than the root of seam 5. Reference is made to an electrode of steel containing 0.12% C, 0.8% Mn, 0.06% Si and 0.03% P and S for seam 6 and to an electrode of steel containing 0.1% C, 18% Cr, 9% Ni and up to 2% Mo for the seam 5.
