JAMES HENRY WOLFE, OF CALGABL ALBEBTA, CANADA.
STAND FOR USE IN COMBINATION WITH A GOLF BAG O ETHE LIKE.
Application filed Kay 2Q, 1922. Serial; No. 562,51$.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES HENRY WOLFE, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of the city of Calgary, in the Province of Alberta and the Dominion of Canada, having invented acertain new and useful Stand for Use in Combination with a Golf Bag or the like, do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same.
My invention relates to a new and useful stand for use in combination with a golf bag or the like with which it is sought" to accomplish the following objects:
1. To provide a bag with an open month which shall have a means of supporting the mouth of the said bag in a raised position.
2. To rovide aj' raising and supporting means w ich will be portable, reliable and may be folded up when not in use.
'My device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. l'is a side view showing the bag with themouth raised from the ground.
Fig. 2 is an end view the twosupportin members in relation to the bag.
i 3 is a view showin the supporting mem ers closed up and old against the ig. 4 is an enlarged vertical side elevation of the joint between the top plate of the supporting legs and the bag, and also shows the legs in relation thereto.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the back of the legs showing how the two legs are mounted and the automaticopening device for the said legs. I
Referring more articularly to the drawings in whlch 'simi ar letters refer to similar parts.
a, is a golf bag which is of the usual type and with stiffening rods therein. A solid rin mouth piece is provided to which the on s of the stiffening rods are secured and exteriorly of the said ring a bracket 6, is. c, are mounted secured. Supporting leg? upon a plate member d, y a pivot joint 6, and are connected together by folding members f, the pivot point 9, of which folding members is mounted in a member h, slidable along a guide 13 mounted upon the plate member 0?. A spring 74, is mounted between the pivot of the folding members and the baseof t e framing m, formed upon the plate d to open both the supporting legs simultaneously, an adjusting screw 11. being provided to vary the tension.
The plate (I, has lugs formed upon its upper end which lugs correspond with and are connected to the lugs upon the bracket 6.
When closed, the legs 0, are held by the clips 0, mounted upon the bag a, in a suitable position and the before described method of mounting the legs together nocessitates the placing of one leg only within the clips 0, to retain both legs in the closed position. A clip 72, is provided, pivoted upon the bracketmember 6, to engage upon the upper edge of the plate d, and retain the legs in position away from the bag.
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a golf bag or the like with longitudinal supports, of a hinge bracketed to the outside of the mouth of the said bag, a pair of legs pivoted upon a bracket, wh1ch bracket is mounted upon the said hinge, a cli member securing the hinged bracket to liold the baseof the legs away from the bag, means for spreading the said legs and means for securing the legs when closed in a. position adjacent the bag, all as and for the purposes described.
2. In combination with a golf bag or the like with longitudinal supports, of a hinge bracketed to the outside of the mouth of the said bag, a pair of legs pivoted upon a bracket, whlch bracket is mounted upon the said hinge, a clip member securing the hinged bracket to hold the base of the legs away from the bag, an automatic spreader for the legs connected by folding levers operating along a ide making movement of both legs possi 1e from force exerted upon one leg and means for securing the legs when closed in a position'ad'acent the bag, all substantially as describ 3.
