Description
July 13 1926. l 1,592,207 I' EQHAvR'xLLA TOOTHBRUSH Filed Sept. 18, 1924i- Patented July 13, 1926.
UNITED STATES EMIL HAVRILLA, OF HOMESTEAD, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOOTHBRUSH.
Application filed September v18, 1924. Serial No. 738,475.
The present invention appertains to a tooth brush and the primary object thereof is to provide a brush of this nature which may be readily adjusted so as to conform to the contour of the dental surface being cleaned.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a means for' holding the brush in different adjusted positions.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a brush having a plurality of bristles and means whereby some of the bristles may be adjusted to vary their effective length. l
Another important obj ect of the invention is to provide a tooth brush of this nature which due to its simple design and few parts may be economically constructed and at the same time capable of operating in a simple manner with efficiency.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having an easy operation, one which is durable, reliable, and Well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. j With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Inthe drawing:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a brush embodying the features of my'invention, l
Figure 2 is a top planyiew thereof,
Figure 3 is a transverse section therethrough, and
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section therethrough showing the brush adjusted in a different position.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 10 designates a handle having the brush back 11 extended from one
end sots13. The effective length of thesel bristles 16, therefore, may be changed
bynotches18 for receiving a
projection19 on the
handle17 so that the
auxiliary back15 may be held in different adjusted. positions v in relation to the
back10. It is preferable to form the
handle17 of some bendable material in order that the end thereof may be moved to disengage the
projection19 from the
notches18 and it is still more preferable that this handle be formed of resilient material in order that it may normally retain the projection in one of the notches. A
transverse extension20 is provided adjacent the end of
handle17 so as to project beyond a side edge of the
handle10 in order that the end of
handle17 may be engaged by a. finger and raised to disengage its
projection19 from one of the
notches18.
It is thought that the construction and op eration 'of the brush should now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It will be apparent from the foregoing that I have devised a novel construction of a toothbrush, which will be cheaply manufactured and will be durable and effective under all conditions and which is not liable to readily get' out of order.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction of a tooth brush, which embodies the features of advantages enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the foregoing description, and while I have, in the present instance shown' and described a preferred embodiment of which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to he extending through the opening whereby the auxiliary back may be moved on the first mentioned back varying the effective length pf tlie bristles extending from the auxiliary A121C 2. A brush of the'class described including a back, bristles extending from the back, said back being provided with a slot adjacent said bristles, and grooves on the opposite side from'said bristles, an auxiliary back slidably mounted in the groove of the first mentioned back, bristles extending from the auxiliary back through the slot, a handle extending from the first mentioned back, a handle extending from the auxiliary back alongside of the first mentioned handle and provided with a projection, said first mentioned handle provided With a plurality of notches for receiving the projection.
3, A brush of the class described including a back, bristles extending from the back, said back being provided with a slot adjacent said bristles, and grooves on the opposite side from said bristles, an auxiliary back slidably mounted in the groove of the first mentioned back, bristles extending from the auxiliary back through the slot, a handle extending rom the first mentioned back, a handle extending from the auxiliary back alongside of the first mentioned handle and provided with a projection, said first Ymentioned handle provided with a plurality of notches for receiving the projection, an extension formed on the second mentioned handle and disposed to terminate beyond one side edge of the first mentioned handle.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
