This invention relates to improvements in toilet accessories, and more particularly to thin flat ornamental containers for face powder and the puff used in its application.
Such containers have usually been constructed of a large number of parts, requiring expert mechanical skill in their constructionand assembly, and due to their con struction offer but slight resistance to compression, thereforebeing easily subject to rupture and destruction.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a structure comprised of few and simple parts, all readily amenable to usual for it.
processes of manufacture and which after assembly constitute a secure means for containing the powder, puff and also a mirror ina neat and highly attractive manner.
A further feature is in a provision of means whereby the hinged elements are at least partially integral with the lid or cover ofthe container", thereby tending to produce an unusually strong and effective device.

As shown throughout the several drawmgs, the lid or cover element is composed of a sheet showing the lid of suitable material, preferably thin metal,
although celluloid or like substances may be used, as preferred. 1
This lid is struck or stamped to produce an arcuately
curved top10, its edges blending into a raised
annular body11 having a downturned
annular flange12 of uniform height,
this flange being notched upon opposite sides as at 13. Y
Fitted to seat upon the inner
peripheral edge14 of the cover is a
cardboard disc15, acting as a packing or cushion for a
circular mirror16, which together with the
element15,, are closely contained within the
downturned flange12.
The lower element of the cover consists of a stamped
ring17 having an inwardly bent to present an
eye20, constituting one of the hinge members, and directly opposite the strip is a
finger clip21 adapted for use in.

The elements 2123 are suited to neatly engage in 'the
notches13 of the upper element,
while the
flange12 may be spun or rolled to engage the '
ring17 thus maintaining the parts in fixed relation. A
node22 may be formed on the
ring17 in register with the
clip21 to act asa locking member, as will later be seen. I
The body or main portion of the container is composed of a
cylindrical ring25 die formed from sheet material, the upper edge of the ring being outturned and curved downwardly, presenting a substantially
bevelled surface26, which may be ornamented in any desired manner, and at the edges of the
element26 is a downturned
annular flange27 of uniform height with the bottom of the
ring25, from which it is spaced concentrically therewith.
An opening in the
element26 is provided to receive the
flange elements28 of an
eye29, recessed to receive the
eye20 of the cover and
flange19 having an extending
strip23 coiled which isheld rigidly when assembled by spreading the
flanges28 in a manner which will be well understood, a
hinge pin24 of the usual type being passed through the eyes. 7

second ring30 is formed with a diameter adapted to be forced over the
element25, the lower edges of which are integral with the peripheral edge of an arcuately
curved cup31, which constitutes the bottom of the powder receiving receptacle. v
The lowermost element of the container is composed of an arc'uately
curved shell32, its
33 being offset upwardly so that its edge will enter into the space bounded by the
flange wall27, which is there after spun or coiled inwardly producing'a smooth, imperceptible joint, as at 34, and binding the body elements into rigid relation.
An
indentation35, in the cylinder at a point directly opposite the
hinge element20, receives the
projection22 of the cover element, forming a snap catch or look, easily released by actuating the
clip21, it being understood that the nature of the material and their shape is such as to permit of the limiting springing movement necessary for the catch to operate. I
From the foregoing it will be seen that the container presented is such as to permit of any desired surface ornamentation, and further that the shape is such as to resist compressive and destructive strains to an unusual degree.
The powder container is adapted to prevent powder from escaping, while the mirror is held in a substantial manner.
It is to be noted that no solder is used in the construction, the parts all being constructed and assembled by purely mechanical action. Although the foregoing is the best known embodiment of the device, it is obvious that minor changes may be madewithout aflectlng thespirit of the invention or the claims by which it is defined. Having thus described the invention, which is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A container comprising an arcuate bottom plate having a recessed annular margin,
0. rlng having a part engaged in the recess and bent re-entrantly to constitute the ed e of the container, g
said ring having an overlying annular element constituting a fixed part of the container top, a cylindrical flange at the mner edge of the annular element extending towards said bottom plate, a cup resting on said plate and having a raised peripheral flange tightly engaged in said cylindrical flange, hinge eyes set in the overlying element of said ring, an arcuately curved cover, a hinge eye integral with the edge of said cover to engage the first named hinge eyes, a clip 0 posite the hinge eyes, and resilient means or detachably securing said cover when in'a closed position.
2. In a container for powdered material, a pair of hingedly engaged elements constituting a body and cover therefor, said cover elements having one of the hinge members formed integral therewith, a cup fixed centrally in the body element, means on said body to prevent escape of material from said cup, a mirror carried by said cover, and means for removably securing the cover to the body when closed thereover.
3. In a container for powdered material, a pair of hingedl engaged elements constituting a body an cover therefor, said cover element having one of the hinge members formed integral therewith, a cup fixed centrally in the body element, means on said body to prevent escape of material from said cup, a mirror, a ring fixed in said cover to retain said mirror permanently therein, said ring and mirror formin a cover for said cup, resilient means for etachably securing the cover when closed over the body, and a clip on said ring to facilitate operation of I means to retain said cup rigidly therewithin,
same means also preventing escape of the contents of said cup.
5. In a container for powdered material, a pair ofhingedly engaged elements constituting a body and cover therefor, an annular ring having inreaching flanged edges, one of said flanges forming a fixed portion of the container body and the other flange set in a peripheral recess in the lowermost body element, a rin set rigidly in the cover element, one of the iinge members being integral with said ring, said rings co-operating to form a tight closure for said cup,'a snap fastener engaging said rings opposite the hinge, and a clip on said ring for releasing saisd fastener.
