FOUNTAIN TooTHBRUsH Filed Aprll, 1931 Patented Mar. 7, 1933 JOSEPH W. BERESFRD, OF CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY FOUNTAIN TOOTHBRUSH Application led April 1,
This invention relates toimprovements in brushes, particularly toothl brushes, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a tooth brush having means for egect- 2 ing a paste contained in the hollow handle of the brush to the bristles in any desired quantit Another object of my invention is the provision of a fountain tooth brush the handle of which is composed of two parts, one of which contains the paste and the other` provided with a bore having a conical cavity at its en'd to receive the paste, and communicating at its opposite end with a bore in a brush head to supply the bristles with the quantity of paste from said handle. y
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will appear as the description thereof proceeds and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a tooth brush constructed according to my in- 25 vention.
Fig. 2'is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view on
line4 4: 3u of Figure 1.
Fig. `5 is a fragmentary 'longitudinalsec-l tional view of the brush head.
As shown in Figures 1 to'5, the handle of a tooth brush is composed of two
sections10 and 11 preferably hexagonal in cross-section in order to provide an eective grip. The
outer section10 hollow and provided with
linner thread12 adapted to receive the en- Q larged end of the
inner section11 provided p 4o with an external thread at its end.`
The outer section is adapted to be filled with a
paste13, and carries atits outerk end a
lmob14. The inner section has a longitudi' nal
central bore15 having a
conical entrance16 at the end in communication with the paste containing outer section and at its opposite end with a central
longitudinal duct17 of a
brush head18, the
shank19 of which is threaded into the end of the inner section as at 20. The
duct17 in this shank has a thread to engage the shank of said head, an enlarged externally threaded opposite end to engage said handle and a conical cavity with- '1931. Serial No. 526,793.
right
angled outlet21 between the
bristles22 held in the head in the usual well known manner and extending through a cover plate It will be lclear that I may make such changes in my constructionas come within the scope of the appended claims, without departure from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A tooth brush comprising an elongated head of semi-elliptical cross'section having a cylindrical shank provided with an external thread and containing a duct, a bristle carrying plate secured on the flat side of said head having a central opening communicating with the duct, a tubular paste container handl@ having a cap at its outer end and pro vided with an internal thread, and a connector element' of hexagonal cross section provided with a bore, an internal thread to engage the shank of said head, an enlarged externally threaded opposite end to engage said handle and a conical cavity within the enlarged end open to its bore.
2. A tooth brush comprising an elongated head of semi-*elliptical cross section having a cylindrical shank provided with an external thread and containing a duct, a bristle carrying plate secured on the flat side ofsaid head havin a central opening communicating with t e duct, a tubular paste container handle having a threaded cap at its outer end and provided with an 'internal thread for receiving the threads ofthe cap to facilitate the filling of cream or paste to the handle, and a connector element of hexagonal cross section provided with a bore, an internal in the enlarged end open to its bore.
In witness whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
' JOSEPH W. BERESFORD.
