Abstract
A data transmission device that may be installed into or on electronic vaporizing devices to transmit data that can be used to provide location communication services (GPS and Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS)), monitor age usage with user alerts, battery life management, and vapor consumption monitoring to protect the health and wellbeing of the users. The data collected may be shared with the user providing real-time data on consumption levels and track historical trends to bring awareness to overall intake. The detailed consumption reporting data can be exported to, as well as integrated with, healthcare, insurance providers, and fitness and health applications. The data transmission device also may provide auto-ordering, purchasing, and repurchasing programs through vendor referrals.

FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

The present disclosure generally relates to electronic vaporizing devices, and more particularly to an electronic vaporizing system that may be used for tracking, transmitting, and/or determining a dosage of a vapor to the user inhaling the vapor.
BACKGROUND
-
Electronic vaporizing devices, also known as e-vaporizing devices, deliver vapor containing one or more ingredients to a user through inhalation. These devices are becoming the preferred alternative for consumption of tobacco, plant-based smokable materials, as well as medical prescriptions. Market research group Euromonitor estimates that the number of adults who utilize electronic vaporizing devices will reach almost 55 million by 2021. With increased popularity comes several problems for users that have varying consequences; these range from device loss, poor battery life, underage usage, addiction, and over-consumption. The World Health Organization (WHO) has cited several health concerns associated with use of electronic vaporizing devices such as, the long-term effects are unknown, nicotine in the liquid that is vaporized in an e-vaporizing device is addictive, and some sweeter flavors of e-vaporizing devices are irritants, potentially causing inflammation of the airways. Various problems arise with these devices, including difficulty finding the devices when lost, battery life issues, user age verification, and monitoring of the consumption of vaporized products.
SUMMARY

Embodiments of the present disclosure may provide a method and apparatus that can not only solve the issue of a lost electronic vaporizing device and poor battery life but also bring transparency to the current electronic vaporizing devices on the market through third-party monitoring of the consumption of the user to reduce or prevent potential underage usage, addiction, and over-consumption. To provide these features, a data transmission device can be installed in or on as part of an electronic vaporizing device, such as an insert, which may allow data to be collected which can be shared with the user, thereby providing real-time data on consumption levels and historical trends to limit overall intake.

Embodiments of the present disclosure may provide a method and apparatus that may monitor the amount of vaping for a user so that the user may be able to reduce his/her consumption. For those users that continue vaping, the method and apparatus according to embodiments of the present disclosure may maximize the vaping experience and visibility. The method and apparatus according to embodiments of the present disclosure also may prevent and provide support for underage users, monitor inebriation levels for marijuana vaping, and generally track the electronic vaporizing device, extend its battery life, and wirelessly charge the electronic vaporizing device.

Embodiments of the present disclosure may provide an electronic vaporizing system comprising: an electronic vaporizing device; a data transmission device inserted in or on the electronic vaporizing device; and an application running on at least one electronic device that may connect with the electronic vaporizing device and receive data from the data transmission device. The at least one electronic device may be selected from: a mobile phone, a desktop or laptop computer, and a tablet. The data transmission device may track usage of the electronic vaporizing device per puff and overall consumption over time. The electronic vaporizing system may further comprise one or more sensors that track each puff taken through the electronic vaporizing device. The application may provide notifications as to how a user is tracking relative to puff limits set and whether the user has exceeded limits and should be encouraged to discontinue use of the electronic vaporizing device for a period of time. The data transmission device may turn off the electronic vaporizing device once a consumption limit has been reached. The data transmission device may further comprise an external LED screen that displays visual data to a user if he/she is does not have access to the at least one electronic device at a time of use, the visual data comprising: a battery level of the electronic vaporizing device, vapor consumption, and alerts of consumption issues. The data transmission device may be screwed into a body of the electronic vaporizing device or may be installed from a bottom portion of a body of the electronic vaporizing device. Data transmitted from the data transmission device may provide mobile supplier re-ordering integration.

Other embodiments of the present disclosure may provide an electronic vaporizing system comprising: an electronic vaporizing device; a data transmission device inserted in or on the electronic vaporizing device; a capsule or cartridge installed in the data transmission device, the capsule or cartridge housing vaporized materials used in the electronic vaporizing device; and an application running on at least one electronic device that connects with the electronic vaporizing device and receives data from the data transmission device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

A data transmission device inserted in or on an electronic vaporizing device according to embodiments of the present disclosure may provide users the ability to connect and transmit data from their respective electronic vaporizing devices to one or more electronic devices including, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a desktop or laptop computer, or a tablet. The data that is transmitted from the data transmission device associated with the electronic vaporizing device may provide location tracking with one or more features including, but not limited to, sound notifications, vapor consumption and supporting analytics with custom alerts, extended battery life, wireless charging, on and off feature, external light emitting display (LED) screen for notifications, and/or mobile supplier re-ordering integration.

The data transmission device may be housed with a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi receiver and a speaker that may communicate with the user's electronic device. Once a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection is made between the user's electronic device and the data transmission device, a location service may be used to monitor location information. While a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi receiver is described herein, it should be appreciated that other communication protocols may be utilized without departing from the present disclosure. When an electronic vaporizing device is lost, a user can use his/her electronic device to identify the last location when he/she had the electronic vaporizing device. Once the user is within connection range, the internal speaker of the data transmission device can be activated allowing the electronic vaporizing device including the data transmission device to be found. The data transmission device may leverage GPS and Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) to improve the location identification. However, additional or other methods of improving location identification may be used without departing from the present disclosure. In an embodiment of the present disclosure, the user may open an application on his/her smartphone or other electronic device. The user may select the “find” function, or another similar function, within the application, and a sound notification may be provided so that the user can track the electronic vaporizing device if it is nearby. For example, the sound notification may be heard if the user is within a 100-foot Bluetooth range; however, the range may vary in embodiments of the present disclosure. The user also may utilize the application to check a mapping feature to identify the last known location associated with his/her electronic vaporizing device. The last known location may be identified based on times that the user has synced his/her electronic vaporizing device with the application in embodiments of the present disclosure.

The data transmission device according to embodiments of the present disclosure may include a power button that may allow users to turn their respective electronic vaporizing devices on or off when desired. This option may allow the user to maintain the battery life by using the power only when needed to operate the electronic vaporizing device. Additionally, a data transmission device according to embodiments of the present disclosure may have the ability to be charged wirelessly to enhance the user's experience.

The vaporized materials used in electronic vaporizing devices may be supplied in capsules or cartridge that are replaced when the product material is fully used. The standard installation method is for the replaceable containers to be installed into the electronic vaporizing devices. With the data transmission device installed in the electronic vaporizing device, the capsule or cartridge may be installed in the top of the data transmission device as depicted, for example, in
FIG. 2A. However, other methods of installation may be used without departing from the present disclosure.

Following this installation method, the electronic vaporizing device may allow the data transmission device to measure the weight of the vaporized materials at their delivered capacity. The data transmission device may detect an inhalation through the power delivery of the electronic vaporizing device. After inhalation, a fluid weight measurement may be taken which may then determine the amount of vapor consumed. This measurement may be taken after each inhalation or puff, tracked, and reported to the user's electronic device (such as a mobile phone, desktop or laptop computer, or tablet) and/or the LED screen of the data transmission device in embodiments of the present disclosure. As the user continues to use the electronic vaporizing device, the data transmission device may track usage per puff and/or the overall consumption over time in embodiments of the present disclosure.

When the data transmission device according to embodiments of the present disclosure is installed in the electronic vaporizing device, including as an insert, it may act as a conduit between the electronic vaporizing device through to the replaceable cartridge which contains vaporizing material and a mouthpiece. In general, the vaporized material may be liquid that may comprise one or more of a variety of active ingredients including, but not limited to, tobacco-based material, botanicals, nicotine, cannabinoids, cetirizine, ibuprofen, naproxen, omeprazole, doxylamine, diphenhydramine, melatonin, and/or meclizine. The vaporizable material may comprise one or more of the following, including, but not limited to, polyphenol, green tea catechin, caffeine, phenols, glycosides, labdane diterpenoid, yohimbine, proanthocyanidin, terpene glycoside, omega fatty acids, echinacoside, alkaloids, isovaleric acid, terpene, gamma-aminobutyric acid, senna glycoside, albuterol, levalbuterol, pirbuterol, salmeterol, formoterol, atropine sulfate, ipratropium bromide, fluticasone, budesonide, mometasone, montelukast, zafirlukast, theophylline, fluticasone and salmeterol, budesonide and formoterol, mometasone, and/or formoterol. Acting as a conduit, the data transmission device may provide access to the main vaporizing components which may provide the methods that may be needed to determine the amount of vapor that is being inhaled by the user. These methods include, but are not limited to, measuring the material balance of the vapor-liquid and the power being delivered over time.

The data transmission device can also monitor consumption based on power delivery over time since it may act as a power conduit between the electronic vaporizing device and the vaporizing material in embodiments of the present disclosure. With the battery activated, a user may draw on the electronic vaporizing device through inhalation which may activate the data transmission device to monitor the power drawdown. This drawdown may trigger a calculation to be made to quantify the dose. This measurement may be taken after each inhalation or puff, tracked, and reported to the user's electronic device and/or the LED screen. As the user continues to use the electronic vaporizing device, the data transmission device may track usage per puff as well as the overall consumption over time. However, other or additional items may be tracked by the data transmission device without departing from the present disclosure.

Analytics according to embodiments of the present disclosure may allow a user to monitor his/her puffing patterns over time. Each puff taken through the electronic vaporizing device may be tracked by one or more sensors and recorded to an application (app) when the user syncs his/her data transmission device associated with the electronic vaporizing device. This syncing may occur through an app that may be available via iOS and/or Android phones. The app according to embodiments of the present disclosure may be integrated with one or more data monitoring devices, including, but not limited to, Fitbit, Apple Watch & Health, Under Armour Record, Nokia Health Mate, and/or Google Fit.

depict screen shots of an application for communicating with an electronic vaporizing device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As depicted in
FIG. 20A, a user may be prompted to identify for which purpose the user is utilizing the app. Purposes may include, but are not limited to, quitting smoking, monitoring consumption, and tracking an electronic vaporizing device. It should be appreciated that a user may select a different purpose each time that he/she accesses the app in embodiments of the present disclosure.
FIG. 20Bdepicts questions that a user may be prompted to answer if he/she is accessing the app to quit smoking. Questions may include, but are not limited to, whether the user smokes cigarettes, how long he/she has been vaping, the number of cartridges used per week, and/or when the user wishes to stop smoking.

FIG. 20C, the user may be prompted to select a device that he/she wishes to find. As depicted herein, more than one device may be identified, and the location last associated with each device may be displayed. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, an icon representing the type of device may be displayed. The user also may utilize this screen to find devices that are available to be found. As depicted in
FIG. 20E, when a user selects a particular device (i.e., Device 1), the user may be prompted to play a sound notification to locate the device, and the user may be provided with information about the last location associated with that device.

By understanding the vapor consumption trends, the data transmission device may provide one or more features that may allow users to set and/or track consumption goals and intake limits. This data transmission device may have the ability to shut-off the electronic vaporizing device once the consumption limit has been reached, thereby no longer allowing the user to utilize the electronic vaporizing device.

In an embodiment of the present disclosure, the data transmission device may provide customizable smart alerts so that the user may be conscious of his/her puffing intake. Notifications may be provided to the user if the user is puffing more than the goal or limit that the user has set. The application on the user's smartphone or other electronic device may also provide advanced customization settings so that the user may smoke on his/her own terms.

Consumption reports and trends also may be available to share with healthcare and/or insurance providers and/or integrate into existing fitness and health applications in embodiments of the present disclosure. Users also may be able to share their data peer-to-peer to communicate their goals and consumptions in embodiments of the present disclosure. While certain entities, applications, and uses have been described herein, it should be appreciated that additional or other entities, applications, and/or uses may be contemplated without departing from the present disclosure.

An external LED screen may be provided as part of the data transmission device to display visual data to the user if he/she is does not have access to his/her electronic device at the time of use. This screen may show the user his/her electronic vaporizing device's battery level and/or vapor consumption, as well as provide alerts and/or warnings when there are consumption issues. It should be appreciated that the screen may display additional or other items without departing from the present disclosure. It also should be appreciated that the screen may be something other than an LED display without departing from the present disclosure.

Age verification may be available when using the data transmission device and its associated electronic device application in embodiments of the present disclosure. In embodiments of the present disclosure, the user's age may be tracked to identify and combat potential underage consumption. In some countries, there is an increasing trend where minors are using electronic vaporizing devices that contain materials which do not contain tobacco-based materials. The data transmission device may include parental controls to provide consumption awareness to parents when minors deviate from using non-tobacco or toxic materials in embodiments of the present disclosure.

In embodiments of the present disclosure where the data transmission device monitors the consumption of the vaporized material, use of the data transmission device with an electronic vaporizing device may provide one or more features, including, but not limited to, auto-ordering, purchasing, and repurchasing programs through vendor referrals.

Claims (21)
1. An electronic vaporizing system comprising:
an electronic vaporizing device;
a data transmission device inserted in or on the electronic vaporizing device; and
an application running on at least one electronic device that connects with the electronic vaporizing device and receives data from the data transmission device.
2. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the at least one electronic device is selected from: a mobile phone, a desktop or laptop computer, and a tablet.
3. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, the data transmission device comprising:
a module body that houses a printed circuit board (PCB) with a battery holder that receives a lithium body; and
a module cover positioned on top of the module body to cover the PCB and the battery holder.
4. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, the data transmission device comprising:
a module body that houses a printed circuit board (PCB) with a battery holder that receives a lithium body; and
one or more slide locks that secure the PCB to the module body.
5. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, the data transmission device comprising:
a receiver and a speaker that communicates with the at least one electronic device, wherein when a connection is made between the at least one electronic device and the data transmission device, a location service monitors location information associated with the electronic vaporizing device so that the speaker is activated when the at least one electronic device is in connection range of the electronic vaporizing device.
6. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the application includes a find function that is activated to provide a sound notification to track the electronic vaporizing device when the at least one electronic device is in connection range of the electronic vaporizing device.
7. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the application includes a mapping feature that identifies a last known location associated with the electronic vaporizing device based on times that the electronic vaporizing device has been synced with the application.
7. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1further comprising:
a capsule or cartridge installed in the data transmission device, the capsule or cartridge housing vaporized materials used in the electronic vaporizing device.
8. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 7, wherein the capsule or cartridge is installed in a top portion of the data transmission device.
9. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 7, wherein the data transmission device detects an inhalation through power delivery of the electronic vaporizing device, takes a fluid weight measurement, and reports the measurement to the at least one electronic device.
10. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 7, wherein the data transmission device tracks usage of the electronic vaporizing device per puff and overall consumption over time.
11. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1further comprising:
one or more sensors that track each puff taken through the electronic vaporizing device.
12. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the application provides notifications as to how a user is tracking relative to puff limits set and whether the user has exceeded limits and should be encouraged to discontinue use of the electronic vaporizing device for a period of time.
13. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the data transmission device turns off the electronic vaporizing device once a consumption limit has been reached.
14. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, the data transmission device further comprising:
an external LED screen that displays visual data to a user if he/she is does not have access to the at least one electronic device at a time of use, the visual data comprising: a battery level of the electronic vaporizing device, vapor consumption, and alerts of consumption issues.
15. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the data transmission device is screwed into a body of the electronic vaporizing device.
16. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein the data transmission device is installed from a bottom portion of a body of the electronic vaporizing device.
17. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 1, wherein data transmitted from the data transmission device provides mobile supplier re-ordering integration.
18. An electronic vaporizing system comprising:
an electronic vaporizing device;
a data transmission device inserted in or on the electronic vaporizing device;
a capsule or cartridge installed in the data transmission device, the capsule or cartridge housing vaporized materials used in the electronic vaporizing device; and
an application running on at least one electronic device that connects with the electronic vaporizing device and receives data from the data transmission device.
19. An electronic vaporizing system comprising:
an electronic vaporizing device;
a data transmission device inserted in or on the electronic vaporizing device, the data transmission device comprising a module body that houses a printed circuit board (PCB) with a battery holder that receives a lithium body; and
an application running on at least one electronic device that connects with the electronic vaporizing device and receives data from the data transmission device.
20. The electronic vaporizing system of
claim 19, the data transmission device further comprising:
one or more slide locks that secure the PCB to the module body.
