Revolving steak-broilers have been heretofore made with a handle terminating in an angular tapering head made to engage with a notch in a ring upon a lateral movement of the handle.

My invention relates to devices for toasting or broiling; and it consists in the construction of parts hereinafter more particularly specified. A

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A 'indicates the grating, which may be ot' wire, oblong in form, and is in 'two parts, one hinged to the other, the top part having a hook, B, to hold it down upon the other, and the bottom part provided at both ends with a journal, C, to one of which is connected a handle, D, so that by means of it the grating may be turned;

One of the gratings, preferably the lower one, has a pin, E, soldered or otherwise securedto one side, usually to the side on which are the hinges, the object thereof being to check the turning of the grating when it has described the half of a circle, the pin striking and resting on -either one of the shoulders formed on the side of a frame hereinafter described.

The saidframe is usually made of cast-iron, and is cast oblong in form, so as to tit over the top of the stove when the several lids are removed, and with a ange, F, around the outside thereof, so that by it the frame may be supported over the opening of the stove, the

said ange resting on the top of the stove.

The top of this frame, at both of its ends, has slots I cut therein, so as to form a bearing for the end journals of the grating; and recesses l are formed in the sides, into which recesses the pin E on the grating will strike when the grating turns, and thereby prevent it from turning more than a half-circle, and whereby the grating will' be held in a flat or horizontal position, presenting the broad surface of the article of food to be toasted or broiled to the fire-heat.

In order to prevent smoke from escaping into the room, and also to assist in holding the grating in a horizontal position, a top or cover, L, provided with a button, M, is laid on the top of the grating, and when the latter is removed the top can be replaced, and serves to cover the opening in the stove and frame.

The meat or bread to be broiled or toasted is placed between the two gratings, and the top grating, by means of a hook, is locked to the lower one, thereby holding the meat, bread, or other article between the two gratings while being turned to subject the other side ofthe article to the heat.

When one side of the bread or meat has been subjected for a long enough time to the heat, the grating is turned and the other side presented thereto, the pin on the side of the grating resting in the recess in the side of the frame and holding the grating in a llat position.

This device is very simple and cheap to construct and very effective in operation.

Having described my invention, what I claim 1. The hinged double grating A, provided with end journals and a handle, and with a check-pin ou one side and a locking device on the other, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
