1 Claim.

This invention relates to a receptacle, and more particularly to such a, receptacle adapted to be utilized as a sputum cup.

A primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved sputum cup, adapted to be formed from a single blank of cardboard or the like, to provide a sanitary, easily destroyed, relatively leak-proof receptacle of such character.

An additional object is the provision of such a `device which may be readily and simply molded from a flat blank of material.

Still another object is the provision of such a receptacle provided with a cover which may be securely affixed thereto, in such manner that upsetting of the receptacle will not result in the spilling of the contents.

Other objects will in part be obvious, and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds, and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the receptacle is adapted to be formed.

Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the formed receptacle, showing the cover member in place.

Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the device asshown in Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a top plan view of the receptacle having the cover in position thereon.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective detail view, showing the method of assembly of the device, and

Figure 6 isa top plan view of the cover of the receptacle.

Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Having reference now to the drawings, and more particularly to Figure 1, the blank from which the receptacle is formed is comprised of a single sheet of material, which may be dei-ined as comprised of a base or bottom wall portion I0, end wall portions II, side wall portions I2, and corner portions I3. Fold lines I4 are formed between the base portion and the side and end portions, and additional fold lines I5 are formed between the side and end portions, and corner portions I3. Each of corner portions I3 is also provided with a diagonally disposed fold line I6 extending between the fold line I5 between the corner portions and the adjacent side and end wall portions.

Each of end wall portions I2 is provided with two diagonally disposed slots I'I formed of two cuts I8 and I9 disposed at an acute angle to each other. Each of end wall portions II is provided with a

In the formation of the device, the end walls i I and I2 are bent upwardly along the fold lines I4, and the corner portions I3 are bent inwardly with respect thereto, being bent inwardly with respect to the fold lines I5, and outwardly with respect to the fold lines I6, as best shown in Figure 5. It will be noted that the outer or upper ends of the end portions II which have the slots 2D, project outwardly or upwardly beyond the corner portions I3. Thus, it will be seen that when the article is folded in the manner just described, a fluid-tight,

securely fastened receptacle is provided.

A cover member is also provided for the device, the cover member taking the form of a rectangular blank 25 of a dimension adapted completely to cover the top of the receptacle, and provided at its opposite extremities with two

From the foregoing it will be seen that there is herein provided a receptacle accomplishing all the objects of this invention and others, including 'many advantages of great practical utility.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that al1 matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
