UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD S. FARROW, OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY.
TENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,106, dated March 21, I882.
Application filed September 13, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD S. FARROW, (U. S. Army,) a citizen of the United States, residing at West Point,in thecounty ot'Orange and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Portable Combination Shelter, Storm, and Common Tent; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description of the same, reterence being had to the accompanying drawings.
The said improved portable combinationtent consists of a single and peculiarly-shaped sheet of canvas or other suitable material having flaps (several'inches wide) and a strong cord (topreventthestretchingof canvas) about its edges, and furnished with hooks and rings, or strips of tape, at suitable intervals.
The shape of the canvas is shown in Figure 1. The edges 0 D and A B are of the same length. The edges 0 E and D F are of the same length and are exactly twice the length of the edges A E and B F. The corners E and F of the triangular ends m n are exactly square. In consequence of this particular shape, the tents may be combined two and two,
(with the edges E O, O D, and D F, or the edgesEA, AB, and B F,resting on the ground,) so as to form larger tents of two different shapes and capacities, the same poles, by combination, serving for the higher tent.
Fig. -2 is a perspective view of the tent pitched. This tent has three of its four faces closed, and affords a maximum available space for a minimum canvas. One or both of the end faces, m a, may be raised for the purposes of ventilation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
An improved tent made up of the form and dimensions substanlially'as represented by let-- ters A, B, G, D, E, and F, with the triangular ends m 12, and having three (3) of its faces closed, all adapted for use as shown and described.
' EDWARD s. FARROW.
