SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,101, dated August 24, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.'
Beit known that I, Oscar; BEEBE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hornellsville,
lin the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Cord Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates t0 an improvement in sash-cord fasteners; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of devices that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a means for fastening the sash-cord to a windowsash, and to detach the same from thesash without the necessity of having first to remove the sash from the Window-frame; and a further object of my invention is.to provide a device which is adapted to securely fasten the sashcord to the sash so that it would be impossible for the cord to become accidentally disengaged from the sash.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation, partly in section, of a portion of a windowsash provided with my improved sash-cord fastener. Fig. 2 is a bottom edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail transverse sectional view taken on the line a: m of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of my sash-cord fastener before the cord is attached thereto; and Fig. 5 is a similar view of the fastener, showing the mode of attaching the cord to the same.
A represents the window-sash, which is provided in its sides with the usual vertical groove, B, adapted to receive the cord. In the lower side of the lowerrail of the sash, at the 'ends thereof, are made countersunk recesses C.
adapted to receive and retain the sash cord fasteners D. Each of the said fasteners is cast or stamped from asingle piece of suitable metal and comprises the body or shank d, having at one end the T-shaped head d. In rear of the said head and projecting upwardly from opposite sides of the shank are vertical lips d, and from the upper side of the shank d, at the extremity thereof opposite the head, projects a vertical stud, d3. This stud fits in an opening, c, which is made in the inner end of the recess C in the sash, and the projecting ends of the head dlit in grooves c2, which project laterally from the lower end of the groove B.
E represents the sash-cord, one end of the said cord being secured to the fastener D by placing it between the lips d2, and then bending the upper ends or points of the said lips inwardly over the cord, so as to firmly embrace the latter and prevent it from slipping from the fastener.
The fastener is secured in the recess C, as 6e before described, and the cord passes directly from the fastener up through the groove B. As the lips d'1 of the fastener are in rear of the head d thereof, it will be seen that the said head forms the short end of a lever, the long 65, end of which is formed by the shank d, and that the lips d2 nearest the head form the fulcrum. The tension of the cord upon the fastener causes the same to be retained very lirml y in the recess Cin the lower edge ofthe Window- 7o sash, thereby obviating the necessity of providing any other means for securing the'fastener to the window-sash, and thereby enabling the cord-fastener to be very readily detached from the sash without the necessity of having 7 5 first to remove a screw or screws, and also without the necessity of having first to remove the sash from the window-frame. If preferred, the recess C may be made in the side rail in the window-sash, instead of in the bot- 8o tom rail thereof.
When the fastener is made from steel plates by stamping, the stud d would be formed by turning up the end of the shank d to form the stud. 1
Having thus described my invention, I claim- I. The sash-cord fastener comprising the shank d, having the lips d2, adapted to be bent over upon the sash-cord on opposite sides 9o thereof, so as t0 secure the same, substantially as described,
