PICTURE HOLDER AND EXHIBITOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,510, dated July 12, 1887.

Application filed April 6, 1887. Serial No. 233,846.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, MAX RUBIN, of thecity, county, and State of New York, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Picture Holders and Exhibitors, of which the following is a specification.

The object'of my invention is to provide a new and improved exhibitor for pictures, advertisements, cards, 850., of such construction that the holders can be adjusted in such position as to radiate from a single point, or can be folded so as to be in line, as may be desired, any one of said holders forming the exhibitor being capable of being held at any desired inclination.

The invention consists in a pictureholder having openings for receiving the pictures, and extensions having circular or segmental edges. A series of such holders are pivoted on a standard, the pivot passing through the centers of the circular parts of the extensions, and a spring or other friction device is rested against the curved edge of each extension.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of my improved picture-exhibitor, the same being extended or opened. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, parts being broken out and others in section.

Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.

The exhibitor is formed of a series of frames, A, made of leather, card-board, veneer, cellu loid, hard rubber, or other suitable material, and provided at one or both sides with an opening, B, for receiving pictures, and slots 0, for inserting the pictures, which slots may be formed in the faces or edges. Each frame A is provided at the bottom with an extension, D, having a circular or segmental edge. A series of such holders is mounted on a pivot, passed through the centers of the circles of the curves on the edges of the extensions D, washers E being inserted between the several extensions. The pivot F is held in standards G ofa base, II. On said base a Ushaped or analogous spring, J, is fastened, the ends of which rest in the curved edges of the extensions D, and by friction serve to hold the holders A at the desired inclination.

as to give the exhibitor the appearance of a fan. When the exhibitor is to be closed, the holders are folded together, so as to overlap each other completely. It is evident that when the holders are adjusted to different inclinations the friction of the springJou the edges of the extensions D must be overcome, and whenever said holders are'released the friction produced by the spring holds them in place. An album may be constructed of the above holders by omitting the standards G, base H, and spring J. Any single holder can be exposed more than the rest by folding the rest of the holders and swinging the one holder out from between the rest.

The ends of the springs may be slitted to have one tongue resting against each extension, or one spring may be provided for each extension.

I am aware that picture frames or holders having extensions provided with circular or segmental edges, which frames are applied to a common pivot and locked in position by suitable locking devices, have been used heretofore, and I do not claim these features, broadly.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a picture-exhibitor, the combination, with a series of frames having extensions pro vided with circular or segmental edges, of a pivot passed through the centers of the circles, standards in which the pivot is held, a base in which the standards are fastened, and a spring on the base, the ends of the spring resting on the edges of the extensions, substantially as shown and described.

2. A picture-exhibitor constructed with a series of pivoted frames or holders having extensions provided with curved edges, and springs resting on said edges, substantially as shown and described.
