TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Bc it known that I, CHARLES H. PARSAHAL'L, of Detroit, inthe county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Air-Whistles for Fog-Alarms, Snc.; and I do hereby dechire that the following is a full, clear, and exactidescrption of the sanne, reference being had to the annexed drawings, mekingpart oi' this speiication, in which Figure 1 is n. vertical section, and

Figure 2 isa top view.

The same letters are employed in both figures to designate the same parts.

My invention relates to the class of whistles known as fog-alarm whistles, 'in which a. continuous sound is maintained by the escape of compressed :tir into a whistle or horn, and it consists in n novel arrangement of the parts, us will be fully set forth in the following description and claims. l

B, in the annexed drawings, is un air-pump, with n double-acting piston, D, working in a cylinder, into which the nir is alternately admitted behind the piston,.through valves I, which are closed upon the return stroke. H H are valves, opening outwardly, which permit the air to escape when the piston is travelling towards them, passing into the cylinder C, and thence' through the opening J, into the cylinder E. In the chamber of this cylinder E is a, tightly-tting plunger, K, which is so constructed -that it may be loaded to the' required extent. This plunger will be forced upwards b y the air pumped into the cylinder E. A A is en alarmwhistle, of the ordinary form of steam-whistles. This is placed over the chamber C, andwhen the stop-cock, connecting it with the chamber, is opened, the ziir compressed in the chamber C and cylinder E- will rush out into the whistle, causing it to sound, and this action will continue with undiminished force until the plunger K has been forced tothe bottom of the cylinder E. Al horn may be used instead of the whistle A.

' Whitt I claim as my invention` and desire to'secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of the pump B, the air-chamber C, the cylinder E, plunger K` and whistle or horn A,

constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
