Letters Patent No. 84,638, dated December 1, i868.

IMPROVED CEMENT.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part 0 the same.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that we, E. V. MACHETTE, Jr., and E. M. CRARY, both'of the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Cement; and we do hereby declare same. r

The obj ect of our invention is to make, by combining the ingredients hereinafter set forth, a cement, to be used for glazing, fillingcrevices in wood or metals, and for all other purposes for which the common cement (putty) .is now used.

To enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we Will now proceed to describe its composition.

Take, of whiting, one and a half pound, (11} lb.;) of china, porcelain, or kaolin-clay one and a half pound, (11} lb.;) of linseed-oil, eight fluid ounces, (8 oz.)

The whiting and china, porcelain, or kaolin-clay are ground to a fine powder and incorporated with the oil.

The advantages of this cement over the common cement '(putty)'now used are numerous. It is much finer, and, on account of its fineness, spreads smoother and makes a more'even surface. It is very tenacious, and adheres firmly to whatever applied, and can be soldcheaper than any other article used for the same purpose.

Having thus described our invention,

\Vhat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-' ent of the United States, is-

A cement, composed of the above-named ingredients in or about the proportions aforesaid, for the purpose specified.

In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
