Building History

The Port of Seattle, formed by the city's voters on 09/05/1911, erected Pier 66 beginning in 1914. The complex consisted originally of the Bell Street Wharf and a four-story, office/warehouse/transit shed located next door to the north.

Alteration

In 1915, the Port of Seattle erected a public park on the roof of the Bell Street Wharf building, that included a solarium and small pool. (See Padraic Burke, A History of the Port of Seattle, [Seattle: Port of Seattle, 1976], p. 45.)
