Changsha is the 27th largest city of China,
and the 103th largest city of the World.

Changsha is the capital of Hunan Province in south-central China,
located on the lower reaches of the Xiang River,
a branch of the Yangtze River.

During the 1st millennium BC,
it was the centre of the southern part of the Yangtze River valley state of Chu.

The origins of the name "changsha" are lost in antiquity.
The name first appears in the 11th century BC,
during the reign of King Cheng of the Zhou dynasty,
a vassal lord from the Changsha area sent a type
of softshell turtle known as "changsha softshell turtle" as tribute to the Zhou king.
