Le Requin was a pirate ship commanded by Christophe-Julien de Rapièr during the 1700s. Her name translates to "shark" in French. The pirate vessel attacked and captured the British merchant vessel Lindesfarne off the coast of Spain, taking it without firing a shot. The pirate crew of Le Requin tortured one of the captured prisoners, young Cutler Beckett, before his patrons from the East India Trading Company paid the ransom. Some time later, de Rapièr obtained another vessel, the brigantine La Vipère. The fate of the Le Requin is unknown.

Behind the scenes[]

The first and only appearance of the Le Requin is in the 2011 novel The Price of Freedom by A. C. Crispin. While it was never addressed in the book, "Requin" is a French word that translates to "shark" in English.
