Machop seems to resemble a bodybuilder while also having reptilian attributes reminiscent of lizards. As shown by its name, its reptilian features may relate to the extinct Moschops which is possibly further evidenced by its head frills, as Moschops were theorized to partake in headbutting as a form of fighting due to their thick skulls.
Machop may come from macho (someone overly masculine), chop, and possibly Moschops.
