Synopsis[]

Excitement is in the air as the Pokémon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament is about to start! Ash and Goh are there, of course, and so is Leon’s younger brother, Hop. After Hop challenges Ash to a quick unofficial battle (Hop loses), the tournament begins. The Masters Eight are introduced, and then the first match gets underway—it’s Leon versus Alain! Both Trainers are formidable indeed, but Leon’s command of his Pokémon’s skills give him the edge and the victory. Next up? It’s a battle between Lance and Diantha, and the winner will get to battle Leon. Who will be victorious?[1]

Episode plot[]

Rotom Drones are flying to Wyndon Stadium, which let off smoke trails resembling the World Coronation Series logo, just when Ash was looking at the stadium logo, Hop spotted Ash, requesting for a battle. Ash sent out Pikachu while Hop sent out Wooloo, but was defeated with Iron Tail from Pikachu. Hop later reveals to Ash that he is the younger brother of Leon, with a warning stating that only himself will defeat his elder brother. In the next scene, Jessie, James, Meowth, Wobbuffet, and Morpeko , were live streaming at Wyndon Stadium, (which they were disguised as thier alter egos), but didn't forget their main purpose of stealing Pokémon from powerful trainers.

After Ash got into Wyndon Stadium, he was seen running to the resting room, where the Masters Eight will gather. At the corridor, he reunites with his former traveling companion Iris, who was also running to there.

During the opening of the World Coronation Series, after the Masters Eight was out on the battling ground, a big monitor was showing the matchups for this season. One by one, the announcer introduces the Masters Eight to the audience: Ash, the first Champion of Alola; Iris, an aspiring Dragon Master and the young Champion of Unova; Alain, a Mega Stone excavator and the winner of the Lumiose Conference; Diantha, a world-famous actress and the Champion of Kalos; Lance, a member of the Pokémon G-Men and the newly crowned Champion of Kanto and Johto; Steven Stone, the heir of the Devon Corporation and the Champion of Hoenn; Cynthia, the world's renowned authority in Pokémon archeology and the Champion of Sinnoh; and finally Leon, the undefeated Galar Champion and the reigning Monarch. Leon invites all the other competitors to face him with their full strength, declaring he and his team will battle anyone and emerge victorious. With the introductions done, the matchups of the first round are selected via random shuffle. The first battle was Alain against Leon. The second is Lance aginst Diantha. The third is Cynthia against Iris. The fourth is Steven against Ash. In the first battle, Alain's team consists of Chesnaught, Charizard, and Malamar while Leon's team has Rillaboom, Charizard and an unknown Pokémon.
