The user ensnares the target with thin, gooey silk so it can't flee from battle.

Effect[]

In battle[]

The user ensnares the foe with a thin, gooey silk so it can't flee from battle. In generation 3, Run Away, Smoke Balls and U-Turn allowed the user to flee from Spider Web (which was later given to all moves involving forcing a switch).

It bypasses accuracy checks and always hit the target (save for those on the semi-invulnerable turn if moves like Dig).

Initially, it bypassed Protect and Detect, but in Gen 3 and 4, it was blocked by them before Gen 6 made it bypass both moves (but not Crafty Shield), as well as making Ghost-types immune to it.

Contests[]

Makes all Pokémon after the user nervous.

It gives 3 appeal points if String Shot was used previously and can be used to make self ko moves (some, if not all), give 3 appeal points.

Super Contests[]

Prevents the Voltage from going up in the same turn.
