Trivia[]
- Swellow and Noctowl are the only regional bird Pokémon caught by Ash that have a two-stage evolution. Coincidentally, both of them had their shiny forms appeared in the anime.
Origin[]
Swellow is based on a barn swallow with elements of robins and hawks.
Etymology[]
Swellow comes from "swell" (to increase in size, either referring to its increase in size from Taillow or its somewhat pudgy belly; it's also somewhat archaic slang for "good") and "swallow" (the bird it's based on).
Ōsubame likely comes from 大 (ō, big), 王 (ō, king), "awesome," and 燕 (tsubame, swallow).
