“…Through the use of a CBPR-based engagement process, a community-based CVD prevention program, FAITH!, was successful in forging an academic-community partnership with African-American churchgoers in a small metropolitan community. We recognize that partnering with the African-American faith community is a well-established strategy that health disparities researchers have successfully adopted to implement health promotion interventions (Campbell et al, 2007; Wilcox et al, 2010) with many adapting previously developed interventions (Dodani and Fields, 2010; Tussing-Humphreys et al, 2013).
