Helicopter

The helicopter^[1]^[2] (ヘリコプター^[3] herikoputā^?) is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a regular helicopter that helps transport the player through a given stage.

Description[]

Helicopters resemble typical real-life helicopters with a white coloration, a wide windshield, thin landing gear and a blue streak on top.

In gameplay, helicopters are usually seen on the ground, but when the player gets near its undercarriage, it will begin to take off and fly while the playable character automatically starts hanging onto one of its landing skids. The Helicopter will then carry the playable character across wide bottomless pits. Once it is above solid ground again, the playable character will let go of the helicopter.

In Sonic Adventure and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the helicopter only appears in Sonic's version of Speed Highway. However, the player has to be careful not to touch its rotor blades when they are rotating, or Sonic will take damage. The helicopter can also be seen when running on the building section, where it can hurt the player if touched.

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, the helicopters look exactly like they did in Sonic Adventure, but with more detail. They are encountered in Speed Highway, sometimes in the air and other times on the ground.
