Laser Flapper

The Laser Flapper (レーザーフラッパー^[1] Rēzā Furappā^?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced Pawn Series Badnik created by Dr. Eggman, and a variant of the Flapper.

Appearance[]

The Laser Flappers look very similar to the Flapper, possessing the round torso, black undercarriage, dome-shaped head, the airplane-like wings instead of arms, the two turbines on their backs, and the flight visors instead of eyes. However, unlike the typical Flapper, the Laser Flappers have a laser generator beneath their black undercarriage.

The Laser Flapper's coloration has varied over the course of the series. In Sonic Heroes, they are mainly colored neon green with blue eyes, but in Sonic Rush they are mainly blue with red eyes, while in Shadow Generations, they are colored yellow, similarly to the Search Flappers, but have blue eyes like in their debut appearance.

Overview[]

Sonic Heroes[]

The Laser Flappers made their first appearance in Sonic Heroes as enemies. They can be found in Power Plant, BINGO Highway, Rail Canyon and Hang Castle.

In gameplay, Laser Flappers have few hit points and typically float in a fixed position in midair, though some of them can move back and forth along a fixed path. As a part of their attack patterns, they constantly shoot a laser resembling a yellow electrical current down into the ground below them. Touching this laser will cause the playable character to take damage. As such, the Laser Flappers are typically positioned along passages that the player has to traverse.

Because they float in midair, the Laser Flappers typically float outside the reach of most of the player's attacks. The easiest way to destroy them is by using Thunder Shoot to knock them out of the sky, leaving them open to any attack. If Thunder Shoot is leveled up to Level 2 however, then it may be enough to destroy a Laser Flapper in one shot. Upon their destruction, the Laser Flapper will grant the player 100 points.

Sonic Rush[]

In Sonic Rush, the Laser Flappers only appear in Dead Line. In gameplay, the Laser Flappers either float in a fixed position or hover back and forth within a certain area that they patrol. When they spot the playable character, a speech bubble with an exclamation point will appear above them. They will then fire a laser directly downward towards the ground, before flying further and repeating this attack pattern during a subsequent encounter with the playable character.

As long as they are within the player's reach, the player can easily destroy a Laser Flapper with a Spin Jump/Axel Jump. Like with the other Badniks in the game, the Laser Flapper will release an Animal upon their destruction.

Shadow Generations[]

The Laser Flappers reappear in Shadow Generations appearing in Rail Canyon, acting similarly to how they did in their debut. However, the Laser Flappers are now colored yellow similarly to the Search Flappers. Additionally, even while affected by Shadow's Chaos Control and Chaos Spear, the Laser Flappers will still continue to fire their electrical laser. Despite typically being found in hard to reach spots, the Laser Flappers can be easily destroyed with a single Homing Attack.

Powers and abilities[]

Like with the other Badniks of the Flapper family, the Laser Flappers are capable of flight using the jetpacks on their backs. They are also equipped with weaponry on their bottoms that let them fire lasers towards the ground.
