Magenta Rhythm

The Magenta Rhythm (マゼンタ・リズム Mazenta Rizumu?) is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the Color Power gained by absorbing a Magenta Wisp and its Hyper-go-on, which turns the user into a musical note.

Appearance[]

When using the Magenta Rhythm, the user turns into a large deep magenta-colored eighth note. In Sonic's case, his version of the Magenta Rhythm has his eyes and ears on the note head, though his eyes do not have pupils and are pale yellow, and his ears do not have ear canals.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Lost World[]

The Magenta Rhythm made its first appearance in the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World. In this game, it can first be used in Silent Forest Zone 2. In gameplay, transforming into the Magenta Rhythm turns the playable character in a note that allow the playable character to bounce in midair without limit, thus allowing them to move through mid-air in semi-flight in order to cross obstacles such as bottomless pits. If the player stops bouncing however, the Magenta Rhythm will drop down. As the Magenta Rhythm, the player can also perceive music notes that emit music in midair for as long as the Magenta Rhythm is active. By steering the Magenta Rhythm correctly, the player can bounce off the music notes in order to earn an extra chime. For each bounce the Magenta Rhythm makes in midair on the way to its destination, the player earns one Ring. In addition, regular Rings will be pulled in when the Magenta Rhythm gets close to them. While transformed into the Magenta Rhythm, the player also cannot lose a life due to damage, even if the player has no Rings at all, though the playable character can still lose Rings due to damage.

To use the Magenta Rhythm in gameplay, the player must possess a Magenta Wisp. If the player is in an area not suited for the Magenta Rhythm however, the Magenta Wisp will go dormant (which is illustrated by its on-screen icon sleeping), thus preventing the player from becoming the Magenta Rhythm. Once transformed into the Magenta Rhythm, the player's Wisp Gauge starts to deplete, and once it runs out, the playable character will revert back to normal. To extend its duration, the player has to collect more Magenta Wisps.

When using the Magenta Rhythm in gameplay, the player has the following controls:

Keyboard Xbox 360
controller
Xbox One

Activate Magenta Rhythm Tap the Magenta Wisp icon in the top right corner of the GamePad screen.

Team Sonic Racing[]

In Team Sonic Racing, the Magenta Rhythm makes an appearance as a product of the Magenta Wisp Item Box power-ups that can be obtained on the race tracks. In this game, rather than transforming the playable character when using the Magenta Rhythm, the game manifests the Magenta Rhythm's power for the playable character to use.

To use the Magenta Rhythm in gameplay, the player has to press Cross/A button/B while in possession of a Magenta Wisp. When used, it generates a large number of musical notes on each of the rival racers' screens, which gradually enlarge and take up more and more space on the screen, making it difficult to see where one is going. It also reducing the speed of all opponents, allowing the user to catch up when falling behind.

Powers and abilities[]

When in this form, the user is able to bounce on air, allowing them to move through mid-air in semi-flight.

Weakness[]

The Magenta Rhythm's only known weakness is that it can only be used for a few seconds and requires more Hyper-go-on from Magenta Wisps to be maintained.
