Shadow Generations
Space Colony ARK
Next stage >>

Space Colony ARK is the first stage in Shadow Generations. It is based on the location of the same name from Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog, primarily taking inspiration from Final Rush and Final Chase from the former.

Description[]

Story[]

Shadow boards the Space Colony ARK to investigate an unusual bio-signature coming from the colony. As he is reminiscing on his awakening 50 years ago, he receives a call from Rouge the Bat who tells him Sonic's Birthday Party is about to start and urges him to make it on time, which Shadow refuses until he's dealt with the threat. Shadow's suspicions are confirmed when he witnesses the ARK's scenery being warped by Doom's Eye. Doom's Eye traps Shadow in a warped version of Radical Highway which Shadow escapes from upon attacking Doom's Eye and receiving an alien artifact he dropped.

Back on the ARK, Shadow finds the Fake Emerald created by Miles "Tails" Prower still remaining on the colony and comments on how even he can't distinguish the Fake Emerald from the real thing Shadow has on hand. After picking it up, the Time Eater appears outside the ARK and attacks Shadow, which draws him into White Space. Shadow finds himself alongside E-123 Omega and sets off to investigate his surroundings.

When he comes back to the ARK from White Space, Shadow temporally gets the Doom Wing, which he uses to restore the stage. Shadow then obtains the Doom Spears, he uses it to open a door and move onto Rail Canyon.

Gameplay[]

The stage incorporates elements from multiple previous stages that take place aboard the Space Colony ARK such as Final Rush and Final Chase. As such, the stage includes an emphasis on Grind Rails and gravity gimmicks. While the Spinning drums appear in Act 2, they are replaced in Act 1 with green gravity platforms which Shadow can stand on without falling even if they are facing sideways or upside down. Throughout both Acts, Shadow can use Chaos Control to freeze the movements of launched missiles, allowing them to be dodged easier or used as platforms to create shortcuts or reach higher routes.

Towards the end of Act 1, in the corridor which leads to the room with the fake emerald, Doom's Eye will appear and transport Shadow into a Doom Zone. Upon attacking Doom's Eye, the dimension falls apart, and Shadow will be sent back to the corridor.

During the first playthrough of Act 2 for a save file, Shadow will temporarily be given access to the Doom Wings halfway through the stage but this ability will be lost upon completing the stage until it is unlocked permanently from the Sealing Device at Chaos Island.

Collection Key locations[]

Act 1[]

  1. Story Key: Right before the second Star Post, jump at the end of the Grind Rail to land on a small roof with the Story key at the front and three Springs at the end.
  2. Music Key: After a set of three Dash Rings launch Shadow into a Chaos Energy Item Box, Shadow will be launched towards the ground while a row of missiles are launched from both sides in midair. Use Chaos Control at the right timing so the missiles will form a straight path Shadow can walk across. The path of missiles ends at a Dash Ring which will launch you into the Music key.
  3. Art Key: At the start of the interior section, there is a small tunnel with a Laser field on both ends. At the second Laser Field, use the homing attack to teleport through the lasers and hit the Gun Beetle then Air Boost into the Dash Ring. Remain on this upper path without falling and it will lead to a spring on a Grind Rail that launches you into the Art key.

Act 2[]

  1. Music Key: After the first Star Post, follow the main path until you Stomp down past missiles firing at you from both sides in the air. Walk to the right until you pass a silo on the ground that fires three missiles. Use Chaos Control to freeze the missiles on your left so they will create platforms to the spring on the top left. Follow the path the spring leads you to and it will take you above a Loop where the Music key is.
  2. Art Key: The Art key is on top of the second Spinning drum in the stage. Jump off the third Spinning Drum to land on the roof of the second, but avoid hitting the Dash Ring on top of the third Spinning Drum as it will launch you the wrong way.
  3. Story Key: Shortly after the Art Key, there will be a loop which will launch Shadow onto another Spinning Drum. Boost up the Spinning Drum, then homing attack off the Gun Beetles onto the Grind Rail. Jump off the end of the Grind Rail, then Homing Attack onto the Grind Rail in the air for the Story Key.

Trivia[]

Music[]

The music for Space Colony ARK, both Act 1 and Act 2, rearrange the music that plays in Final Rush.

Act 1's music, rearranged by Jun Senoue and TeddyLoid, closely follows the original but with the heavier electric guitar sound often associated with Shadow, electronic beats and dramatic orchestral strings backing. The trailer version of Act 1's music was officially released on various digital platforms on August 8, 2024.

Act 2's music, rearranged by Circuit Freq, takes on a more purely-electronic sound, with a consistent, pounding beat.
