Abda

Abda was a female Kage Path of the Open Hand member during the High Republic Era.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] she became one of the Mother's Children.[1]

Biography[]

Abda was born on the planet Quarzite and grew up with a brother. As was common in Kage culture, she received intense combat training in order to honour their warrior traditions. However, Abda felt that she was treated far more harshly than her brother, who she knew she would never be able to equal as a fighter. As a result, on the day of her brother's wedding, she left her homeworld for pastures new.[1]

At some point before 382 BBY, Abda joined the Path of the Open Hand,[1] an extremist Force cult that argued against the use of the Force, believing that to use it was to abuse it, leading to strife and death elsewhere in the Galaxy.[3] The Path was led by an individual known as the Mother, who maintained an inner circle of devotees known as the Children, a group that carried out various secret tasks and missions for her. Abda herself was not one of the Children, but in 382 BBY she was charged with accompanying one of the group's members, a fellow Kage named Serrena, to the desert planet E'ronoh.[1] E'ronoh had been at war with its twin planet, Eiram, for the past five years, and Serrena's task was to ensure that the conflict continued, with Abda providing her with support as she sought to complete her mission.[1]

Abda and Serrena set up a base in an abandoned house in the Brushlands, outside E'ronoh's capital of the Rook, but they did not get on. As Serrena struggled to fulfil her task, failing to kill E'ronoh's Princess Xiri A'lbaran, Abda was critical of her, drawing Serrena's ire and the retort that Abda had not been chosen to be one of the Children. Shortly afterwards, Serrena failed to threaten the Eirami Queen Adrialla into producing more poison for the Path, a deal which Adrialla had originally entered into with the Mother. Serrena's failure led the Mother to contact Abda in the middle of the night. The Mother informed Abda that she would now count as one of the Children and told her that she had faith in her. Later, another member of the Path, Binnot Ullo, met with Abda in the Rook's marketplace. Ullo provided the Kage with a vial of Eirami poison, warning her that Serrena's failures had allowed a peace arrangement to be drawn up between the two planets and the Jedi to gain prestige as brokers of that peace. Abda was told not to miss.[1]

Seeking to enact the Mother's retribution, Abda first used the poison to kill Serrena. She then infiltrated E'ronoh's royal palace as a member of the household staff in order to get into the preliminary ceremony celebrating the wedding of Princess Xiri and Prince Phan-tu Zenn of Eiram. The wedding had been arranged to cement the peace agreement and would culminate with another ceremony on Eiram. During preparations, Abda was bumped into by the Jedi padawan Enya Keen and was unable to disguise her distaste for the Force-user. Later, as she served drinks during the reception, she was again jostled by Axel Greylark, son of Chancellor Kyong Greylark and an individual who was secretly working with the Path. Having done her rounds, Abda then slipped away and climbed through the palace laundy lifts to Princess Xiri's personal quarters. Yet at the crucial moment she realised that her vial of poison, which she had stowed in her apron, was missing and, to make matters worse, Padawan Keen was waiting for her with her lightsaber drawn. Keen took her into custody, placing her in a cell to await interrogation. Now locked up, Abda hoped that someone from the Path would arrive to rescue her. Unfortunately for her, the Mother had ordered Greylark to clean up all loose ends. As such, Greylark soon arrived in her cell and, putting his arm around her throat, he injected her with the Eirami poison which swiftly killed her.[1]
