Communications relay/Legends

- "The old interstellar relays are down. You can't just pick the person you're going to call out here."
- ―Kerra Holt[2]
A communications relay, also known as an interstellar routing station, interstellar relay, or hyperspace relay, was a structure in space that served as conduits for transmissions. Commonly referred to as a relay, it made up a communications network that spanned much of the known galaxy, connecting its citizens.
Relay stations were also employed for handling messages of classified information by the military of the Galactic Empire, which, at its peak, was the dominant government of the galaxy.
Under Imperial rule, relay stations responsible for secure channels were manufactured by Arakyd Industries and fitted with mounted sensor arrays. Put in deep-space, they were placed near communications satellites.
Description[]
Communications relays served as interstellar routing stations which bound the galaxy by allowing transmissions being made throughout a communications network. When shut down, no secure transmissions could be made unless one reactivates one such station.[2]
Arakyd Industries manufactured[1] interstellar relays[4] with mounted sensor arrays, and the space machinery was utilized by the military of the Galactic Empire. These Imperial relays were located near communications satellites in deep-space.[1]
History[]
By around[3] 1032 BBY,[5] the Galactic Republic disabled much of the galaxy's communications network by deactivating their communication relays amidst the Sith invasion of Republic territories.[3] This greatly affected the galactic citizenry, as populations under the threat of the Sith lost contact with other worlds, becoming unable to contact Jedi for help. With the Sith rampaging unchecked,[2] this time period became known as the Dark Age of the Republic.[3]
Prior to the Battle of Endor, Imperial defector Zaletta used a relay Comm Center to divert messages and inform the Rebel Alliance of Imperial activity. A skirmish was initiated in order to trace Zaletta.[1]
