K-A0S

"You will not find a more perfect combat machine."
―K-A0S[3]

K-A0S was an Imperial KX-series security droid who competed as a Hunter in Hunters of the Outer Rim on the planet Vespaara in 9 ABY. Having previously lost her original arms to the Wookiee Hunter Grozz, who wielded them as a pair of clubs, K-A0S possessed heavy plated Imperial riot shields grafted in their place and a shoulder mounted blaster. Wishing to find the individual who had stolen her limbs, she was drawn to the Arena after seeing the competition broadcast on ORSN. K-A0S joined the competition with the sole purpose of seeking vengeance on Grozz and recovering her original arms.

Biography[]

Disarmed and dangerous[]

"I have come for the one you call Grozz."
―K-A0S[3]

K-A0S was a KX-series security droid of the Galactic Empire[1] whose exact origin was unknown, according to Arena News.[2] By 9 ABY,[4] she had lost her arms[1] to the Wookiee Huttball player Grozz[5] after the security droid was unfortunate enough to get in his way[6] and foolish enough to anger him.[7] K-A0S had worked security for an Imperial performing the role of Master of Ceremonies for a Huttball match. After the match, Grozz, who had been competing, approached the Imperial and shook his hands. Grozz continued on to K-A0S and shook both of her hands so vigorously that both of her arms came off. Grozz reacted with what K-A0S considered to be feigned surprise, before running off with her arms.[8] It was later rumored that Grozz had taken K-A0S's arms after she stole his favorite Huttball clubs.[9] Keeping K-A0S's arms as a prize,[10] Grozz wielded them as an improvised pair of clubs and used them within the Hunters of the Outer Rim,[5] a competition held at the Arena on the planet Vespaara,[11] as a Hunter. Grozz's fellow Hunter Zaina had believed Grozz's clubs came from a KX unit he encountered on Vespaara, citing a time when an armless KX droid was thrown across a room Grozz had just left.[5]

K-A0S as a Hunter in the Arena.

After losing her arms, K-A0S had heavy Imperial riot shields grafted in the place of her original limbs, which she desired to seek out.[1] In 9 ABY,[4] on her mission to find the one who had stolen her arms,[1] K-A0S witnessed Hunters being broadcast on the Outer Rim Sports Network and was drawn to the Arena.[2] She sent a number of menacing messages on the HoloNet to Grozz, upsetting her old enemy.[12] K-A0S was eventually signed on as a new Hunter by Balada,[13] the Hutt co-owner of the Arena,[14] who noted that the new competitor would please Sentinel,[13] a former Imperial stormtrooper who kept up the persona as a Hunter.[15] After being revealed as the latest addition to the tournament, K-A0S announced her intent for vengeance against Grozz.[2] K-A0S's arrival also inspired Balada to create an Arena battlefield based on the castle[16] of the Sith Lord Darth Vader on the planet Mustafar.[17]

Order among K-A0S[]

"So, K-A0S, can you tell us what brought you to the Arena?"
"I have a singular protocol to execute: to enact revenge against the Wookiee known as Grozz."
―Boz Vega and K-A0S[10]

K-A0S sought vengeance against Grozz for stealing her arms.

As the newest Hunter, K-A0S was interviewed by[10] Arena announcer[15] Boz Vega for Arena News. The security droid misunderstood Vega's request to introduce herself, leading[10] him[15] to move onto the topic of her motive behind joining the Arena. K-A0S stated her desire to seek revenge on Grozz, elaborating that the Wookiee had stolen her arms. When Vega questioned Grozz's reasoning for the act, the droid claimed it was irrelevant, asking her interviewer if he wished for her to demonstrate the feeling of losing one's arms. Vega declined, instead noting that K-A0S had adjusted well since the incident; pleased, the droid asked whether he wanted a demonstration of her shoulder-mounted blaster. However, Vega once again declined, deciding to conclude the interview. Misinterpreting Vega's muttered comment to "not let the door hit you on the way out," K-A0S blasted through the door with her shoulder-mounted blaster, and exited through the resulting hole.[10]

Meanwhile, Grozz was seemingly unperturbed by the security droid's arrival; instead, he silently showed off his clubs around the Arena, leading Arena News to speculate whether the arms truly were K-A0S's and why the Wookiee had stolen them.[18] Grozz refused to comment on the rumor that K-A0S had stolen his Huttball clubs.[9] According to rumor, Sentinel—having followed the conflict between K-A0S and Grozz—spoke to the security droid about allying to take control of the Arena, in return offering to help her achieve her revenge. Arena News reported that K-A0S agreed to consider the deal.[19] K-A0S ultimately accepted the partnership; furthermore, other supposedly-villainous Hunters joined in. The group paraded the Arena with Imperial flags and daring the other Hunters to face them, although their efforts were largely ignored.[20] Rumored to have been motivated by the support of Sentinel and the other temporarily-aligned Hunters, K-A0S officially challenged Grozz to a match, which the Wookiee accepted, despite his previous silence.[21]

K-A0S defeated Grozz and publicly revealed how she lost her arms. K-A0S had a quiet conversation with Grozz, at the end of which she was heard to mutter that she "didn't need those stupid arms anyway" as she walked away. There was reportedly a single tear coming from one of her eyes, although an Arena News report believed that it was just as likely droid oil.[8] With the match over, Sentinel's Imperial resurgence came to a halt. K-A0S now refused to come out of her room.[22]

Characteristics[]

K-A0S had riot shields grafted to replace her arms.

A KX-series security droid, K-A0S possessed white photoreceptors and black plating that featured a red stripe down the right side of her face. As a droid with Imperial programming, K-A0S had little love for anyone, especially rebels,[1] but was an ally of Sentinel.[23] She had a particular rivalry with Grozz,[2] the one who stole her arms.[1] She had displayed foolishness in their initial encounter by angering him to an extent that he removed her arms.[7] K-A0S joined the Arena with the sole purpose of exacting her vengeance on the Wookiee,[2] letting nothing stand in the way of recovering her arms,[1] which she held to the utmost importance.[10] She saw herself as the perfect combat machine[3] and was eager to demonstrate her armaments. K-A0S interpreted statements literally.[10]

Equipment[]

"My shields can protect or punish."
―K-A0S[3]

After losing her original arms, K-A0S possessed a pair of twin heavy plated Imperial riot shields grafted in place of the limbs,[1] enabling her to knock opponents aside.[2] She was also equipped with a shoulder-mounted[1] blaster rifle.[10] Her enhanced armaments amplified the brutality of the Imperial KX droid.[23]

Behind the scenes[]

K-A0S is a playable character in the game Star Wars: Hunters who was introduced in its second season, "Empire Resurgent,"[23] on August 1, 2024.[3] Although K-A0S herself was depicted in a trailer for Star Wars: Hunters released on April 30 of that year[24] and officially revealed on July 30,[23] her arms, wielded by Grozz in the form of the KX Clubs,[5] were originally pictured in the first teaser trailer for Hunters on February 17, 2021[25] and featured in the game's soft launch[5] on November 16 of that year.[26]

Classified as a Tank character in-game,[23] K-A0S uses her Grafted Twin Shields weapon[1] to attack, as well as defend herself and her allies while providing ranged support with her blaster.[23] Her Bulwark Shield ability allows K-A0S to conjoin her shields in front of herself for protection, utilizing her blaster to attack while the ability is active. The Lunged Uppercut ability causes her to lunge forward toward an enemy and knock them into the air. K-A0S's Backhand ability allows her to knock back the enemies she attacks, inflicting further damage to any enemies struck mid-flight. Her Ultimate ability, Aftershock, causes her to repeatedly strike the ground, damaging and pulling enemies toward her in a large radius.[1]

During the "Empire Resurgent" season, K-A0S is available to users with the Season 2 Arena Pass. The season's Pinnacle Clash event, The Power Paradox[23]—from August 22 to September 1[27]—features K-A0S exacting her revenge against Grozz. Users are randomly assigned to either characters' team and must complete challenges to earn rewards, including a K-A0S costume and weapon wrap. The multi-part event A Growing Empire additionally details the friendship between K-A0S and Sentinel.[23]
