Saint Mary of Sorrows

  • ️Fri Feb 28 2025

Lent will begin this Wednesday, Ash Wednesday. It is our spiritual trek to Good Friday and Easter. What a tremendous season Lent is! Have you decided on the prayer, penance and almsgiving that you will strive to perform in union with Our Lord’s grace? It would be good to mention some examples of each, starting this week with Prayer.

Lent is a season of prayer. This Lent we have a tremendous opportunity for prayer as we have Daily Eucharistic Exposition/Adoration. Perhaps, the family can stop in for a visit each week. Other ideas for prayer would be daily Mass, Stations of the Cross every Friday at 7pm (followed by Mass), Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary each day. Can I read some spiritual works/meditations each day? The Morning Offering is a very good daily meditation. In book form, In Conversation with God is tremendous for Lent (and Easter time).

Mardi Gras celebration will be held on Saturday, March 1st in Farrell Hall. The doors open at 6:00pm, with dinner starting at 6:30pm and the entertainment beginning at 7:00pm. Tickets are $18.00 at the door.

The young adults are meeting in St. Joseph’s Hall on Sunday, March 2nd for breakfast and coffee after the 9:30am Mass. Young adults with children are welcome!

“Why do we practice prayer, fasting and almsgiving for Lent?”  Join Father Vander Woude and the Legion of Mary at the Confraternity meeting on Monday, March 3rd from 7:30-9:00 pm in Farrell Hall (previously known as the Patricians). The discussion will be about why we practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for Lent.  No reservations are needed. There will be light refreshments and free literature. The meeting format is an introduction talk by lay speaker, open discussion, talk by clergy, and wrap-up discussion. The Confraternity of the Legion of Mary is a meeting for Catholics to discuss a topic of the Catholic Faith. Knowing our Faith helps us to convey it to others.
